I just got a 98 and have this problem.

I was thinking of replacing the whole LED assembly with an aftermarket part.

These guys sell them but I have no clue which one will work. They list 6 types for the 97+ SC.

At about $50 it seems very reasonable and worth not having to do a painstaking repair where all LEDs have to be unsoldered and resoldered in the existing assembly.

Anyone every try this approach?

^ I'm guessing you picked up that 98 sc300? Well I had originally purchased replacement LEDs to swap out, but went the much easier route. I found a universal 60 LED strip similar to the one you are looking at laying around. I had to cut open the universal one and transplant the strip into the old housing. Had to modify the stock housing a bit but it worked. I use super glue to reseal the housing then applied a thin layer of silicone as well to keep water out. I was going to ditch the stock spoiler and go with a carbon trunk and carbon hood but decided against it since the Texas sun sucks the life out of everything. I don't want to deal with the carbon clear coat discoloring. Let me know if you need any help, I'm in SA.

Thanks SATXSC400

I found that the OEM LED strip is $150 from the cheapest online Lexus dealer for parts.

Looking at the strip today I found that buying a universal strip and getting it in there will not be too easy to do.

Sooooo.....I decided to try my hand at soldering in new LEDs. The worst that can happend is I screw up and I have to get a new one. At least I will learn something and if I am successful I will save much.

One thing is unclear......LEDs have to have a resistor to be used yes?

Where is this resistor in the car?

OR

Does a direct 12 volts from the battery go right to the LEDs?

The resistors are located on the LED strip.

It actually wasn't that bad. I used a airtool cutting wheel to carefully cut the new LED strip out then mounted it to the OE housing. Solder the new wires to the old harness, glue back together, seal it up, and done. Took me about 2 hours for the whole process.
