i want to know in general what the club lexus community likes the most out of these engines and why.

the options are the 1UZ-FE, 2JZ-GE, 1JZ-GTE, and 2JZ-GTE

take into consideration the following aspects of why your choice is better or worse and overall why you picked it.

1) price
2) availability of parts and upgrades
3) reliability
4) uniqueness
5) out of the box power
6) potential

you don't have to lay it out for me in some essay format on those specific topics, i just wanted to throw some ideas out there, i want to know overall looking at all the aspects what people think is the best engine to tune for our cars.

 

1JZGTE

1) price - 1JZ for sure. If the 2JZ wasn't so expensive I'd have voted for that.
2) availability of parts and upgrades - Lots of 2JZ parts seem to work for the 1JZ so there's plenty of aftermarket and replacement parts
3) reliability - It's a toyota engine. As long as you don't beat the crap out of it constantly it's going to be reliable.
4) uniqueness - Not really unique anymore, but it's JDM TYTE! (kidding.)
5) out of the box power - Not incredibly impressive, but it's a good start.
6) potential - Tons of potential.

For me it's the 2jz-gte As what Ethix said.. But for a 2j.
though it does cost more. But from a 1j to a 2j stock vs stock you an feel a difference.

 

A 1J--

Price -- $2300 for a front clip!!! nothing else comes close
Parts-- 2J block makes it nearly americanized, if you ever melt your pistons that is
Reliability-- it's a Toyota motor--
uniqueness-- By far #1 (except for a boosted 1UZ of course)
out of the box power-- pretty good-- not the best
potential-- 22psi on stock h/g?? What's that like 600 hp for a motor that cheap--

By the time you've bolted on a single kit, bought an SAFC, bigger injectors, you've still kept $2000 over buying a 2JZ-GTE that's bone stock....

No brainer.

 

but in the end, the 2jzgte has more aftermarket and available oem parts.

 

i've found a 2JZ-GTE for 1900$ w/ an auto transmission

so how are u saving 2000$ after all of this?

Ill vouch for that, but I have seen 1jz's for like 500 (engine only)

 

same, one i found was a 94+ year on it and it had 25-35k miles on it

looked straight to me, i don't want a manual anyways with my kind of driving, i would switch to the 6 speed way later though.

if i can get that kind of engine for like 2150 shipped, how much do you think it would be to get it all hooked up and driveable in my car play123?

What about ecu?

Wiring harness?

Intercooler?

Cold Pipes?

Hot pipes?

various/countless brackets/nic nacs needed?

A clip comes with all of the above my man, all untouched until you get it--

 

cost will vary greatly depending on parts and soforth but dont forget to include any thing that might need to be replaced on the motor.

ps. smart choice on sticking with auto. love my manual but ATL traffic is a killer leg workout. haha

Yea but with a clip you dont know the condition of the hoses/brackets/etc... I have had HORRIBLE problems with wear issues!

 

I agree, but that goes with anything used-- and it's likely to save you loads even if some stuff needs replacement--

I think there's only precautions that can be taken to avoid that, like researching the seller of the clip thoroughly before giving them your $2500...

 

so prob around 3-3.5k to get the 2jz-gte and a good deal of shop time before its up and running?
