Default Dash Cam

I am wondering if anyone has installed the OEM Dash Cam on an RX350. Is the wiring harness already in place at the location, allowing for plug-and-play? I believe this cam is standard on the Luxury edition, but optional on the Premium+ edition. I might need to check with the dealer going forward.

I just picked up the Lexus Dashcam from my local dealer. My vehicle is a 2024 RX350h Luxury and it did NOT come with a dashcam. Parts guy was really good > checked and said a harness is needed and extra. ($30). He then printed out installation instructions because a sticker on the dashcam box said instructions are on TIS system. The instructions say for 2023 as well. You have to remove the sunvisor mount clips, and instructions suggest you buy 2 incase you break. You take off the clips so the headliner can pull down a bit to fish in wire and a connector.

NOTE : The instructions have you mount the camera to the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the cover around the mirror mount.

On installing I damaged the panel clips holding the roof console (map light assembly) in place. This must be very common because they quote the part # .

Getting and reading /understanding the instructions is key. I did struggle to get the connector behind the mirror to release, and dressing the wiring harness so it does not interfere with reinstalling the roof consul took some extra effort.

Correct Part Numbers Dashcam PT94976221 y harness PT 949-48210. Replacement Roof Console assembly Clips 90467-09245

Note this dashcam fits lots of Lexus models. You need a model specific wiring harnes.

You can install on the left as well.

Yes it is possible to mount on left, but the last page of the instructions have a cut-out template for mounting to the right side, just right of the camera that detects signs. The template guides the positioning of the self adhesive mounting plate for the cam. The cam then hooks over an edge hidden behind the headliner, and then the cam snaps onto the mounting plate. I suppose you could mirror over and modify the template to position the cam on the left side as shown in all Lexus pictures. I am 6'2" and on the left the cam would slightly obstruct my view. On my last RX I had a GoPro mounted on the right side, so I am used to that. This cam does NOT have a monitor so there is no real reason to have it in full view while driving.

P.S. If you are thinking of doing a self install, see if your parts dept will print out the 16 pages of instructions for you first. YOU NEED THESE INSTRUCTIONS. It shows it's easy to break several clips and plates, if you pull in the wrong spot or direction.

You can download the "Lexus DashCam" App and poke around in the Manual before installing one.
They pair with WiFi (not Bluetooth) to view and download files.

The 2025 Luxury edition I observed on the dealer showroom floor, in February this year, had the dash cam on the left side of the rearview mirror.
In my vehicle, I have noticed a black plastic cover on the right side of the mirror with the same footprint as the dash cam.
I think driver accessibility of any cam controls would be better on the left side if either side worked.
In my younger years, I would have tackled this project, including a wire harness under the headliner. I will probably seek professional help from the dealer.

Thank you, everyone, for your valuable input.

Just a heads up. Check with your dealer on which side they will be installing. The issue date on the instructions (dated 03/24/2025) supplies a template to install to the right ONLY. I remember seeing another thread where a member had the dealer install, and they put it on the right and his dealer said that was the only position possible. Having just installed mine, I know that is not true, but you need a template to locate the adhesive mounting plate. Without it will be difficult to judge where to mount the mounting plate. Is it possible you saw a plugin hybrid version built in Japan? Japan has right hand drive so units made in Japan might place it on the left side.

I have a 2023 RX Luxury and it did NOT come with a dash cam. After reading the specs on the OEM camera, I couldn't find a need for it. After reading Consumer Reports and several Tech Articles, I question the value of any dash cam.

Good point. I don't recall if the showroom model was a plug-in, but it could have been since it was about $10k more than mine. It had other options as well. I suppose it's not a big deal which side of the mirror the cam is on.
I've been looking at the Fitcamx Dash Cam as mentioned by others in this thread. I'm impressed with its mounting as well as with its location behind the mirror, nearly out of sight. It's not very accessible there, but I think any controls must be accessed through a phone app.

FitcamX is definitely the way to go. The Lexus cam is low quality and way overpriced. There are others that are higher quality but you’re not using these cams as a GoPro for movie making.
Their sole purpose is recording in case of an accident.

And the OEM and most others are obvious cams and don’t blend in like the Fitcam.

The only reason u would need to touch the fitcam once installed would be to remove or add a new SD card. As the downloads of the video's are horrendously slow however install of front and rear was super easy and great quality.
