We bought our 1st Lexus on April 29th. Bought it for dependability……
First check engine malfunction lights came on at 512 miles. Camshaft. The dealership changed the oil and filter; reset the alert. Second time was 980 miles. Dealership changed the Camshaft bolt and gear assembly, oil pressure valve assembly.
Third time at 1871 miles on September 19th the dealership turned off the alert stating there is no repair needed. They are now saying it is the software and there is no fix for it so just keep bringing the car in and they will keep turning off the alert.
How do we trust that? How can we know it is not mechanical?

 

You need to call Lexus if the dealership is not fixing the cause of the malfunction light. You may want to consider your state's lemon law as well.

So, anyone else have this waste gate problems?

 

AKAIK nobody else has reported a waste gate failure on here or reddit. I have a found a couple on Highlanders though. All were low miles so I would suspect it was just a bad part.
