As I described their operation, rain sensing only. It has a multi position selector for the sensitivity of the sensor but in my experience it does nothing.

The intermittent selection seems be overridden by the sensors. So if the sensors don't work, the arms won't wipe regardless if you put through low to high intervals. It seems to work 75% of the time correctly.

There is no intermittent operation (time based) on the RX, only rain sensing (page 219 in the manual). The rotary selector is supposed to increase or decrease the rain sensing sensitivity.

It seems like this is a batch of sensors that have the issue since so many of us are experiencing it. Willing to bet a TSB will be put out for it eventually.

For what its worth, I took it in to the dealer for this issue and they reprogrammed the module and it still doesnt work sometimes. However, when they tested it using a hose it worked every time. It seems to get confused by rain. To test it myself after it stopped working, i poured a bottle of water on the sensor and it worked right away, with every single splash. So the sensor is definitely having an issuer with rain particles.

I have the same issue and my dealer opened few weeks ago a ticket with Lexus, because they couldn`t fix. While they tried to repair it, they deactivated the sensor and after this, the manual time based interval with the adjustment wheel worked again. Here you can select between 5 and 1 seconds. Until Lexus fix this issue, the dealer leave the sensor deactivated for me, because it`s much more comfortable for me to change the wiper speed manually instead of no working at all.

In general there are 2 issues from my point of view. The first it`s the already described one, that the wiper stop to work if it only lightly rain. The second one is, in the manual it`s descibed that when the wiper is working in AUTO mode, it should it possible, too to adjust the speed manually with the steering wheel but this doesn`t worked, too. The dealer and me are thinking it`s a software issue. Let`s see when Lexus will fix it. I assume soon, because now it`s winter a lot of customer already unsatisfied.

Well its good that they know about this, and yes I think its software. When they will actually release a software update for the 23s is anyone's guess, so far nothing,

Mine doesn't work consistently, I would rather have standard intermittent wipers without the rain sensor. I quite often have to turn the wipers on manually as I cant see out the windshield at times regardless of where I set the sensitivity. I had this system in my 2017 MDX and it did not work very well either. Cheers

These systems do work, I had it on MB and BMW and I never had to touch the wiper stalk for years, just left it in AUTO all the time. The problem here is that the Lexus software is bad, and they don't issue timely fixes (or any fixes), they just let the customer deal with the issues. The dealers can't fix things like this so rather than bringing it in and having them take the car apart needlessly, its better to log a complaint with the Lexus help line.

Same with my Audi Q5 - no issues with auto-wipers over 5 years of ownership.

The fix is to replace the wiper motor assembly as the logic control for activating the wipers is in their, the sensor just says it's raining. Had this issue and there was recall for it.... joys of being the first to try something new.

Spent months trying to figure out this issue. Initially, I didn’t realize it was a big no-no placing the carpool pass device just below the rear view mirror. The wiper sensor dramatically improved after that but still didn’t wipe about 30% to 40% of the time. It is now at the dealership and they just gave me an update that they’ll need a week since they are working directly with the factory to figure it out. I’ll make sure to update this thread and crossing my fingers!

I don't have anything on the windshield, for what its worth. This is a software issue. If you leave the interval setting in one position, it works. If you adjust it during the drive (higher, lower), eventually it just stops and you need to reboot the wipers entirely (off/on). There is some bug in the software that doesn't process the during-drive interval changes correctly.

@lexusnyca Unfortunately, mine still has issues even in the scenario that you shared, that is when the sensitivity is not adjusted. If that was the case, I would've been more than happy with the way it was. As it is, the wipers will usually work for me until when the rain slows down, that's when it becomes problematic for me. That then will lead to slower wiper intervals and at some point they stop completely, even if my windshield is drenched with rain drops.

Not sure if anyone here has had a previous Lexus, but my auto sensing works fine. My other Lexus would changed frequency depending on how fast I am going. slower speeds would not wipe as often.

We are having a massive dump of rain with the atmospheric river in the PNW. Driving the RX was fine using the rain sensor. I was on and off the highway to and from work today.
