Who can guess what is going on. I wouldn't assume that today reflects their service dept attitude. Personally, I'd contact a few dealers online in your area with the specs I want and ask for their best price. Go have a nice lunch with your wife and let them find you a car. You already did the test driving. Good luck.
It’s the end of the month. Sometimes things drop through the cracks when trying to make deliveries, etc. I assume you have the managers name and number that said he would get back with you. Call him. If for some reason you are unable to reach him contact the dealership GM and explain what’s not been happening. If another dealer has the vehicle you want most dealers will do dealer trades with dealers outside their area unless there have been problems between them in the past. Your dealership is going to service your vehicle regardless of what dealer you buy it from.
Do you know which dealer it is where they found your vehicle? If it's not too far away, go deal with them directly. We've always had a hard time getting our local dealer to trade with another dealer to get the vehicle we want. It may have something to do with the other dealership getting credit for the sale, even though it's your home dealership doing all the work. (I could be completely wrong on that).
Hi guys-first post, newbie here. I am currently perplexed with my local Lexus dealership and seeking advice. Raising our family, we mostly drove Toyotas/Fords/Hondas but now that we are empty nesters, we've decided to treat ourselves with a new Lexus RX. We visited our local Lexus dealership over the weekend, had a nice chat and test drive with a saleswoman, spoke with her manager, again, pleasant. They didn't have the colors with the options we wanted so they began looking around online checking out other dealerships. They found one but acted like it would be such a hassle to get it for me. It was getting late and so we ended things by them confirming my phone numbers and saying they'd get back in touch with me. I'd told them we would not be trading the 4Runner we were in, so no trade in. I didn't tell them this, but we will be paying cash, so we won't need any financing either. So now here we are, tomorrow is Thursday and neither of them have called me. I did receive a boilerplate text from what I assume is one of the sales managers asking if I "received all the information you requested." I texted him back with questions and never received an answer.
I really want this RX and am literally standing here with money in my hand and I feel like they don't want my business! Honestly, our visit at the dealership was fine, nothing happened to cause them to think we weren't serious, so I'm not sure what to think. Every other car we have purchased over the years, the salespeople have always gone above and beyond to make the sale. I just am at a total loss!
So my question(s) to you guys that are experienced in dealing with Lexus: 1) Should I call them and reaffirm my interest in purchasing the RX? I mean, this seems to me I'd be giving up ground on price negotiations as I'd be expressing my great desire for the car-something I was always taught not to do. 2) Is it really that big a deal for a dealership to get another RX from a Lexus dealer that happens to have exactly what you are wanting to buy, even if it's a good distance from their location? 3) Should I just go to another Lexus dealership (about 100 miles to the next closest one) and buy it there even though I'd have to use the service department at my local dealership. Would that cause me undue problems? 4) I'm in love with the RX, no doubt, but for those of you that have them, are they really worth all this unnecessary trouble I'm going through to get one?
Thanks in advance for any helpful comments and advice. I hope I'm an RX owner soon so I can join in the conversations here!
Pardon the following, but you cant expect much from a one way relationship. Around the end of this month, sales folks are only going to pursue leads that they can close. Good sales folks are gonna do both. Seeing how the dealership is not interested, I guess they dont see the dealer swap happening before the 29th, I assume your not gonna get any traction. Sad since, you seem like a serious buyer.
My advice is to directly contact the dealership with your inventory, and go from there. End of Feb and March are about the same in the terms of deals, race to the end of a quarter/month.
I would contact as many dealerships as you can. Local will often obviously want to sell you what they have in stock. My local told me that the specific vehicle I wanted was not available within 1000 miles. Called a couple of other dealers and they found 3 identical within 100 miles. Stick to what you want and someone will find it. I am willing to drive/fly to get what I want at the price I want vs settling for dealer leftovers. BTW, I believe that there are incentives for another week or so (may want to confirm elsewhere) but I got my RX350 at 12% below MSRP so good deals are out there. Good luck!
Final deal:
Custom ordered 2020 Lexus RX450h
Red exterior; black interior
blind spot monitor, park assist, lane keep assist, 360 camera
cold weather package
color heads up display
power folding heated rr seats; heated/vent fr seats
triple beam led, cornering lamps
luxury package
panoramic moonroof
nav + mark levinson
tow prep package
door edge guards
mudguards
cargo mat/net/wheel locks/key glove
4k off msrp + first 5 services included.
Car will arrive in 4 months. They said they'd give us the final deal based on whatever msrp finally ends up being (gave me an estimate of about 63.5k). I guess the incentives change monthly and we can't lock in an interest rate today until the car comes in? This is what we were told. Any one else with experience on this?
I placed a factory order for a RXL 350 with similar options 2 weeks ago. They also told me ~4 months. I asked for a VIN yesterday and was told they hadn't received one yet. You ordered yours before mine (I am also in TX). Have you received any updates on your order status?

We were in a very similar situation, cash in hand, trying to find the right one. I emailed and walked into 3 dealerships within ~75 miles, One experience so so, very little followup, the 2nd made me wonder what the "Experience Lexus" was all about, really really bad, and the third, which was farthest away, was by far the best. They found a similar car that was incoming, very close to what we wanted, and it came in a bit earlier than expected. Overall a great experience with them, driving just a few more miles and worth it. You do need to ask them what their incoming cars are. They also had the ability to see what other dealerships have incoming as well.
He also said they would do a dealer trade, but their costs were a bit higher because they choose to NOT put miles on a car to retrieve it, rather they flat bed them which costs several hundred dollars depending on distance traveled.
We want to buy a new FWD atomic silver RX with, among other things, a birch interior and the premium and navigation packages and a panoramic view monitor and blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic braking. I've looked at the websites of dealerships up and down California and have not been able to find such a car. Northern California dealerships seem to have more AWD RXs and Southern California dealerships more FWD RXs. But no one has the exact car we want. So time to special order. This is the first time I've done that. When you do place a special order, is the best strategy to send a list of requirements to various dealerships and ask for their best price. Or is the final price negotiated when the vehicle arrives at the dealership 3-4 months later? Complicating this is that we would be trading in our current RX.

TIA for any suggestions!
There are lots of ways to do this, but here is what I did last summer .
I met with a sales guy that I was comfortable with at my local dealer (1 hour away) I test drove 4 different Rxs and finally decided to factory order a 2020 450h with lots of goodies. This was July and the 2020s were not yet in production . I had a 2016 Honda pilot I wanted to trade in. I looked up the trade in value using Kelly blue book and NADA, and that gave me a realistic number of the current trade in value in my area. When I decided to place an order , I met with my sales guy and we agreed in principle to the following deal.
-I and the dealership would accept the kelly blue book trade in value that was current .( 3 months down the road, the car would be worth a little less...)
-I would pay some agreed upon number less then the msrp of my ordered 450, and any other promotions or discounts would be added to the final number.
My car came in right before thanksgiving, and the deal went exactly like we had discussed. Good news was the December to Remember promo was going on and I added that to my discount.
There are certainly other ways to do this, like selling you car yourself, etc, but I did not want to deal with this. I did call other dealers to get a sense of what discounts might be available for the then future 2020s just to make sure my dealer was in the ball park.
FYI Lexus increased their rebates in my area (your area may or may not have the increased rebate so check). Lexus is calling it the Invitation to Lexus event. https://www.lexus.com/offers
Mind posting the breakdown, it helps others in your area
My bad MSRP is 53360 here is the breakdown
I offered 49000 flat because of the few miles being a dealer swap so i can get my silver with birch interior preferred and they accepted it even have it delivered near my credit union
what's a typical best practice, in terms of negotiating prices. should you negotiate the new vehicle pricing prior to negotiating trade-in value?
i scouted all dealership within 75 miles of my area
Ask for offer sheets breakdown, and let them compete until i get the best price. It took me almost 2 months before i pulled the trigger and i think whats fair to pay. Since my mentality is im not rushing to buy at all. But if you give me this price you will have my business.
