Manufacturing defect
This cracked emblem is a manufacturing defect, my 2016 Lexus is mostly kept in a garage and the emblem has never been hit. I can see it cracking and it is coming from the inside of the emblem.
While at Lexus the other day I met an other Lexus driver with exactly the same problem. So my guess is that there many Lexus drivers experiencing this problem, this should be cover under warranty.

Rear door emblem cracking under surface
This is a 2022 Lexus RX350 purchased earlier this year and yesterday I noticed that the rear door emblem/badge had, what I thought, were scratches on it. However, it's not scratched on the surface at all. The surface is perfectly smooth and there are no scratches on the perimeter of the badge - the body is in pristine condition. Upon close inspection, these appear to be cracks under the surface. I checked the interior of the rear door and it looks fine; I checked to see if there was any tampering with the badge and there's nothing that would indicate that; I checked the garage door to see if there could have been contact and there's nothing indicating that as I would have expected see and feel surface scratches, but the badge surface is blemish-free. Any ideas on what could have happened? We're taking it to the dealership on Tuesday to have it checked out. It's in the garage at least 4 days per week and it appears to have happened yesterday after it was parked in the hot sun for a few hours not to say it was caused by the heat, which shouldn't happen, but I'm struggling to determine the cause.

Pole Position
Mine did the same thing. I had some water spots on it and rubbed with slight pressure to remove them and mine cracked. Yours should be under warrenty. I ordered a plastic $5 tool that was listed as body molding removal tool. Don't think I needed it but be careful not to scratch the paint. I just pryed it out. I had the rear sensor on the emblem to open the trunk. The one without the sensor was $60 and the one with was $450. Since I never used the hand over the emblem anyway to open the trunk ordered the less expensive one.

Interesting. Mine doesn't have the rear sensor on the emblem, but rather the kick sensor to open/close the door (which doesn't work great, BTW), so thankfully a replacement should be on the cheaper end. My husband noticed, what looked like some pitting on the inside edge, so it may just be a dud like the oxygen sensor was (which had to be replaced the day after I brought it home from the dealer). Hoping the dealership does replace it under warranty, but then ya never know with them. Thank you very much for the reply!

And I don't think that's the only thread -- my search foo is not finding the other one.
