Tesla doesn't need to rely on Apple Carplay or Android auto to infuse some tablet-like functionality into their system yet from another device - they have already reached the end-goal, full tablet integration from the get-go.

Dont forget, there are legacy issues and support for n models.

Talking about legacy, Lexus being first with CD in vehicles, will be the last one to drop it.

Lexus GX was the last to sport a tape player all the way until 2009.
That's not surprising, considering avg age of Lexus buyer is 61.

I’m still looking for a way to play my 8-track cartridges in my car (I’m over 61).

I have a 2009 RX350 that still has the 2008 maps on it - yes, I'm lazy and cheap! Anyway, when I took it in to the dealer to have the faulty cracking dash replaced earlier this year, the nice man in the parts department just GAVE me the 2014 update cd. I haven't installed it yet, but have watched youtubes and appears all I have to do is access the unit, which is in the back of the car behind the "secret door" (woo hooooo), take the old disc out, put the new disc in and let it load. Easy peasy. Guess I will take care of this over the Thanksgiving week!

You're going to be very pleased with the update. We also have an 09 in addition to our 14 and updated the NAV with the 2014 edition. Not only do you get newer map information, the software changes from mono-screen to dual screen technology. It's a massive upgrade and really nice.

So when I get our 2014 NAV updated I should tell them I want the 2018 dated version? I thought it would be dated 2017 if released at the end of 2017. Please clarify. For over $300 I want the latest but not sure what to ask for. Thanks.

I associate the software with the model release. Around Sept, manufacturers start selling the next year models. 2018s at the dealer lot are using the newest map data.

Safest way to approach is to ask for the latest software and ask when will the next release come out.

In TruTexan's case, the parts guy did him a favor, but the old software had very little commercial value.

For clarity on this subject the base hardware [your model/yr of vehicle] AND software [upgrade] BOTH play a part and are linked.Lexus also updates firmware at times. Analogy is computer hardware, firmware, operating system and software, all need to be considered in an upgrade, as the software has to use all the underlying structure.

On nav screen select
Info -> Map Data
Mine reads 17.1 ... [just got updated today]. I have not played with it much ,,, looks and feels the same. My saved locations and home were not lost.

Keep in mind the software (data) may have tp be matched with type of hardware the vehicle has. Technology has changed over time and the hardware has changed too. See my post #86 this thread.

Mine is 2011 450H.
