Thumbs down Power Outlets

I know that everyone is REALLY disappointed with the power outlets on the new 2010. I would be willing to bet a paycheck that this changes mid year or in 2011.

Has anyone come up with any creative solution to adding more?

My wife was thinking that with the Nav system there was an additional outlet included? Does anyone have more than what is in the center console and the cargo area?

Thanks!

isnt there two in the center console? I dont think there are any more, but to be honest, i think people have a bigger problem with the location of the outlets rather than the number of them.

what could you possibly need to charge at one time in the car?

i dont think i have touched the 12Vs in my cars ever.

No issue on the quantity but as another person posted in another thread it's the location of them. We use a portable nav system and it's like running a clothes line getting the power from the nav to the bottom of the center. Also the fact that each time you have to use the power you have to remove the liner that is in there to get to the plugs...

They did not do very good usability testing with real consumers on that one. Another issue we have had is the fact that the lid for the console only opens partially and it's not easy to get things in and out.... We wish we had the console from our '07 RX back....

I rather like the location of the power outlets. I have a power cable running through the bin (the one you use to take it out) into the smaller tray inside the center console. When I need to charge my phone, I put in there. There is also a hole in the console through which the power cable can be threaded out. It is hidden by a sliding tab when not in use. I prefer this set up to the usual exposed power outlet with cables all over the place and getting in the way of the shifter.

I dont diappointed with the new power outlet. yes it isn't in a tranditional place but I believe that's not a bad place.
it could cover backseat.
12V outlet normally for Navigation and cellphone charge. Since most people buy RX2010 will get nav and usb is good enough to charge most smart phone. so dont real need 12V outlet however it will help for laptop/game boy user on the backseat. if you get 110V option you will understand why they put the 12V outlet there. also they designed power line hole. if you real want to use your own GPS infront you could buy an extention cord.

3 Outlets...

I keep my blackberry car charger and cell car charger there all the time, as well as my USB extended cable. I hate to lift up/down the box and bend...

Also, I have my laptop car charger on the trunk power outlet, so I can charge my laptop when necessary.

All of them are extendable, so I can easily use them when needed.

I am in the same boat, although I do not have the need for portable nav. Before I discovered I could use a flash drive to listen to the music, I wanted to connect to my unsupported old ipod through FM transmitter I bought years ago. It connects directly into the outlet, and has a few dials on it to change the frequency. I found it impossible to use inside the console. Terrible design. That's one thing I truly dislike about RX design. What's more weird is if you look at the center console of 2010 Toyota Prius, you will see both in a place, where they should have been in RX as well.

As far as the number of outlets goes, I found a Y-like splitter I bought years ago and never used before, but in this case can be useful. Just google "car outlet extension cord" for ideas.

I hate the location of the power outlets. It's major inconvenient, and what do you do with the tray you have to remove to get at the outlets?

This is a major failure of market research. What were they thinking (or NOT thinking??).
