What is the mileage on it and has the ATF ever been changed? What is the problem and what codes, if any, have been pulled?
Why do you think replacement of it will cure your symptoms?

Are the type of person who works on their own vehicle? Performs oil changes, coolant changes, transmission fluid changes and other more complicated jobs? You have to drop the transmission pan to access the valve body. You have to follow a specific procedure to get the fluid level correct when filling it back up.

According to our lead tech - When replacing the VB, the TCM memory will need to be reset - it needs to be erased so it can learn the new values

Hi
Thanks so much for your reply and interest.
Yes I do work on my own car , shade tree mechanic.

I bought this car from my sister in law and unfortunately I took her word that all was 100%
So the transmission is doing the following
In lower gears the shifting seems a bit abrupt , upper gears OK .
My main concern is when it shifts into 3rd gear , the RPM's flutter/jump up and down. First the RPM will drop when 3rd is engaged then it will jump up 1-2 hundred at most , then drop ,than jump again than drop and act normally..
2-3 seems to just have a single 50 to 100 rpm jump , then settle to normal.
The shifting problem is most noticeable when accelerating at 1500 to 2 k RPMS .
I hope my explanation makes sense to you ..
Difficult to drive and keep I eye on the RPMS ,
The car has 85K on it , fluid was changed at 75 with OEM fluid in hopes of correcting the shifting issue .
Fluid change had ZERO effect one way or another
So I was thinking if it's a slipping clutch , I would see this in all gears and the RPm flutter/ jumping would be across all gears ,not primarily on one gear with consistently and symptoms .

Any thoughts ?
Also if you think it's the valve body , OEM or aftermarket and if aftermarket , what brand .
Also OEM Trans fluid or is aftermarket synthetic good to use ?

Thanks again for everyone's help and input..

You may want to confirm the fluid level is correct as these transmissions are very sensitive to the correct fluid level and checking it is a pain in the a$$ involving having it at the correct temperature and watching the overflow etc.
You can use Toyota WS ATF or Idemitsu TLS-LV which is a full synthetic exact replacement and what I have in my Toyota and Lexus vehicles. You can get 5 quart jugs at NAPA or Amazon.
