Default Tire sensor light keeps coming on

Hi,

About a month ago my tire sensor light came on. I thought, oh no must have picked up a nail or something. Brought it in for service. They checked, no nail, said tires looked fine. I even had them check a second time.

No problem for about a month. Now the tire sensor light is on again. I don't see a nail or anything.

Any ideas?

Check the spare. The sensor can also go bad.

What year RX? My 05 has a reset button under the dash. Sometimes I get an errant light (or used to really) and just hit the button if I know the pressure is correct.

It is almost always the spare tire. It looses air over time. Over inflate the spare by 6 to 8 psi and you would have to think about it for a long time.

2009. You mean even the spare has a sensor?

Absolutely! When you pump the air in, put about 5 lbs extra, then bring it down to the desired pressure.

Yeah, I could reset it, but then I would be concerned that something might actually be wrong with the light.

Dude, it's the spare. Getting to it is a pain, so when you do, just overfill by 5 pounds and you should be set for life.

That might trigger the light again. The system works by comparing the pressure between all 5 tires, and if the difference between the lowest and the highest tire exceeds 7-8 lbs, the light comes on. So, overfill it by a couple of lbs, maybe. But 5 lbs could be too much.

After you hit the reset, if there is no real problem, the warning light doesn't come back on.
If there is a real problem, after you hit the reset the warning will come back again.
Then for sure, have the tires checked.
