Talking New Member - '06 RX330

Hello,

I've posted a couple of times, but thought I should say Hi. My wife and I have been patiently looking for an RX for a while. Four weeks ago I went to the local Toyota dealership to buy spark plugs for my Tacoma and saw a beautiful RX330 on the Toyota Used Car lot next door. I went over to give it a look assuming that it, like many I'd seen before, would be out of our price range. A few short hours later my wife was driving it home, grinning from ear to ear!

It's a Breakwater Blue 2006 w/ Navigation, heated seats, auto-rear door, etc. No AWD. It had just under 26k miles on it at the time of purchase. It's in GREAT shape and even has new tires. (Though, I'm a bit worried about the fact that it went through tires in 26k miles.) The price was $26k even before taxes, fees. (Comments?) The warranty is good through January 2010, and I haven't purchased an extended one yet. I'm still deciding......

So far everything has been great. There was a pretty bad rattle coming from the moon roof every time a door was closed, but it was fixed under warranty the weekend after purchase. There was also some annoying squeeking coming from the rear door, but I used the soft-side of some self-adhesive velcro to fix that.

I'm a DIY kind of guy and I'm looking forward to learning more about my wife's car from this site. Next stop: 30k mile maint. Any links to useful threads would be appreciated.

I just bot a 2006 RX330, same color as yours...less miles, no NAV but I have AWD. Paid a little more than you so I think we are comparable. Anyway, I've had VERY good luck with WARRANTYDIRECT.COM. (I have no, none, zero affiliation with them other than being a satisfied customer).

Happy Lexus motoring!

Welcome to the club, I have two 04 RX's, my wife and I love them. Sounds like you got a great car at a great price! I hope it gives you the same enjoyment as our Lexus's have, I only buy Lexus, never look at any other brands. Best value, best resale, Bullet Proof cars.

wow thats a sharp looking vehicle, very clean! congrats on your purchase. take a look through the site and find out which jobs you can do yourself to save a little bit on maintenance. some of the relatively easier ones are air filter and cabin air filter. youll also see some get their maintenance done at a toyota dealer because this vehicle is essentially a toyota highlander. also good for when you need replacement parts, you can buy cheaper at toyota.

Daryl40: tell us more about warrantydirect, ive always been weary of these companies so id love some info on them

Nice! You were lucky! Clean! One of the DIYs you can do to set your RX apart from the rest is to change your Grille. I happen to have an RX400H grille that I used and since I replaced mine with the TC grille, you might be interested. Let me know. I can send you a pic.

Congrats again for a nice purchase and welcome again!

I agree... we were very lucky. It is EXACTLY what we wanted and at just the right price. She puts few miles on her cars, so the fact that we got one with just 26k miles on it means that it should last a good, long time.

Thanks for the offer of the grille. I've gotten the Mod bug a little with my truck, but one of the things my wife told me when we first got her RX was, "I like it the way it is... leave it alone." I think she could see the look in my eye.

We've done the little things (aka 'not really mods') like Lexus rubber floor mats (visable in the pics) and a weather-tech mat in the back, but she's not going to let me change the appearance. I'll be doing Oil changes, Air Filter changes, etc... mostly maintenance DIY projects as opposed to modifications.

Default Air Filter

Air Filters for Lexus RX330 quite costly. Not hard to get out, I did have a little difficulty getting the rear latches cost and locked. OBTW, Roll tide!

Once out of warranty the maintenance is not that hard. I purchased an RX330 almost a year ago with 40k miles on it and since had done all of the maintenance myself: front brakes, all filters, oil changes (the easiest job of all, took like 30 minutes from the start), rear diff, transfer case fluid change. I am going to do the transmission fluid change at some point (keep putting it off). So, congrats on a great purchase! The car is sharp and appears to be in great shape! You, guys, won't be disappointed. I ditto on parts: go to a Toyota dealer, at least, half the price than at Lexus dealer.
