Default Anyone know the wiring color code for door lights?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone know the color code for the door light. I wanted to connect a side marker light to it. And if anyone know where's a good spot to tap into, tha'll be great. Much appreciated.

which door lights do you mean? The ones on the interior door panel (on the bottom) that illuminate when the front doors are open? When you say side marker, you mean sort of like an additional flood light?

You're correct. The interior door panel light that illuminate when you open the doors. I'm surprised the rear doors don't have any. Do you know where's a good place to tap into in on the kick panel?

Much thanks.

I would think you would need a diode (or relay) to keep the kick-panel light from going on whenever the side lights are on. Probably two diodes each, so the tailights and others don't go on too when you open a door.

what i would try then, is removing the clear cover of the light, and finding the wires that feed the bulb. Notice their colors. There've gotta be a million wires going into the door to feed that, the window switches, motors etc...

Then pull away the black rubber "slinky" cover that connects the door to the frame, and see which direction the wires enter the cabin, either up down etc. Then just tap off the color wires that match the two going to the bulb. They will all be different colors.

Another option is to just tap off of the "door open" bulb in the gauge cluster. That way you could get your flood lights to illuminate whenever any door is open. I'm assuming you want a flood light to illuminate the ground or something of that nature? The bulb in the cluster is easily accessible and has 12V and enough current to run several more bulbs/LED's... just another option i would try.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I ran 2 LEDs to the front footwells in mine from the center console. I know that's a far way to run them from but it was very easy. The best part is that the LEDs came off an ES350 footwell areas (you know the orange glowing light they have) and when I play with the dimmer switch from the dash they dim also. Very Cool! Next step when it gets warmer out is to also use more of the same OEM LEDs & light up the drawers in the center area.

Thanks guys. I'll probably tap door wire from the left foot kick panel. If I tap the hot wire, is the other wire from the LED ground? Or should I just tap the other wire from the door light as well?

Much thanks. Just want to be safe and not cause any error code.

I would just get the other wire. You could use the ground, but just get the other wire to make sure...

If for some reason throughout the process the lights seem to "not work anymore", and you don't know what you might have done... check the fuses. I can't count the number of times i've blown out fuses on the rx300 working with the electronics as they're VERY sensitive.

Good luck and tell us how it goes

For the center console, you can tap off of the ashtray bulb. It gets 12V and dims using the dimmer just like everything else. Pretty conveniently placed

Yes that's where I guess I tapped to get to my front footwells. Mus have lights in there, because I cant find anything in the dark inside these drawers.

that's the same reason i put mine in. The newer rx330/350's have blue LED's in there too.

you should also put little LED's in the inside door handles like the 330/350's too You can tap off of the window switch lights.
