I still haven't updated yet, I will probably try next weekend.
If anyone knows how to export the stock base tune, let me know. I want to keep a file safe somewhere. If you're in California, you do too. lol
Here's another option, you can register a 3 day Techstream subscription for ~$30 $65 from Toyota/Lexus.
From the Techstream online portal, you can download the stock tune (engine, trans, & various modules) for your car, direct from the manufacturer/source. It will be a file you can keep permanently and forever, and give you the option to flash back whenever.
It's how I recovered from being locked into OVTune, since I didnt buy into VFTuner.
It will also give access to the Techstream software & full repair manual/torque specs (however long your subscription is lol).
I have mine saved from there and various other cars as well.
Totally worth $30 $65 for peace of mind, in your situation.
Keep the Techstream software saved/installed, after the subscription ends, the license will expire and lock you out.
However you can use the CUW.exe (Calibration Update Wizard), without a license; have to launch it direct from install location.
That will give you the opportunity to flash to stock whenever (Toyota/Lexus files only).
Just note that Toyota/Lexus only provides the latest cal, which incorporates changes/recalls.
Here is when i updated my car:
Engine ECU 8300 -> 8700
Trans ECU 8300 -> 8400

That's a great idea.
How much is a normal subscription to Techstream?
Is there a list of designated Calibration ID's for each car so I can cross reference and make sure mine is correct? I am going through this now with my Evo since SMOG tests now check the ECU calibration ID to make sure it's not modified and compares it with the OEM lists of Calibration IDs for that vehicle.

It is subscription model only:
Correction, $65 includes the Techstream software and ECU Cals. That is what you need/want.
Permanately activated copies exist, if you look around.
Cant link since its against forum rules, I think.
Newer versions support newer model year cars, etc.
Cross referencing cal id's is beyond my knowledge.
I know Toyota/Lexus simply just increments their numbers/letter when the do updates/recalls.
For your RC, inside the portal it will give you specific cal ids once you select the car.
Might be best to ask forums specific to the EVO.
You can also add the Lexus credit card key with Techstream, super cool party trick.
Each car is limited to 8 keys, and can reprogram masters.

I am liking that 2 day price lol.
I am also considering the D3 Performance Tune Software, if I can find a tuner in SoCal experienced with this motor and turbo, I am fine doing it for a custom tune with my mods.
For the Evo I already have that handled. I have ECUFlash and EvoScan and a Tactrix cable from Orange Virus that I can use to flash my ECU at any time lol
OVTune actually came in useful for something. I can't even flash back to my OVTune on my Lexus anymore. What a waste but at least the Tactrix cable is super handy.

Lol, same story with me.
Expensive $800 cable at this point.
Probably a good idea to do an ECU reset after the flash as well, I found the car still seemed to have some learned behavior from prior to the tune and it responds so much more quickly afterward.
The boost comes more quickly and it pulls hard up to 6k, feels like a different car.

Also a good idea to do this, I've noticed Sport+ mode isn't available after flashing, disconnecting the negative terminal for 10 mins restores it.
I also needed to do this when I flashed back to stock.
