I put an invidia midpipe + tanabe exhaust on my 08 is350 and a couple months after my CEL+VSC came on. I took it to my mechanic to put it back to stock because he told me my cats needed to be replaced and lexus is will cover them aslong as the cars stock. I drove about 50kms and my lights went away. I called invidia and told them the problem and they said I needed an 18mm o2 90 degree extension. Has anyone else had to put this extension on? I dont see any forums on this problem
I would find out what code was thrown. Could be a bad O2 sensor.
I am pretty sure Invidia was talking about the tool used to remove the O2 sensor from the mid pipe. Which looks like this:
If they aren't talking about the tool, I have no idea what 'extension' they are talking about. The O2 sensors go into the invidia pipe just the same as the stock pipe.
I also haven't heard anything about Lexus covering the replacement of cats, especially on a 2008.
It removes the sensor from the direct exhaust stream where readings might be effected due to aftermarket changes (catless headers, cat deletes, midpipes, etc). It's basically fooling the vehicle into thinking the systems are in compliance, thus eliminating the CELs.

yeah that was the part invidia was talking about. And the code was p0430 catalytic converter below threshold. My only problem is that do all lexus is350s need a 02 extension to run a mid pipe. I feel like that with an o2 extension I'm only covering the problem and not fixing it. Thanks for your feedback.
Some might accept the mid-pipe without the extensions and some do. Yes, it is a cheap solution to fool the car's systems; but it is not the real answer. But of course when you start to add aftermarket parts onto the car, what do you expect? The car's systems have been altered, so factory settings are being messed with. Sensors start to trip out and CELs are to be expected.
