Default Rough Idle - Looks like the dealer fixed it!

I finally had enough of my low idle issue on my 99 GS400 and took it to the dealer for service. In fact, the car actually stalled in a parking lot twice because of my low idle! It made my 40K car feel like a 15K Honda....

I went to my dealer (Stevens Creek of San Jose) on Friday and told them about my problem. I mentioned that I would like to have the TPS changed out based on some web investigative research that I did. The service manager was very cool and said that he would fix the problem for me and appreciated that I came armed with some suggestions (TPS, clean out the throttle body, etc).

The net-net is they installed two new parts at NO CHARGE (warranty) and gave me a nice loaner car too:

22060-50011 LEVER ASSY, THROTTLE
89452-30140 SENSOR, THROTTLE POS

So far the car has no idle problems at all! I drove around all day and can usually make the car hit a how idle by leaving it in N and then dropping it into drive at a stand still. When I used to do this the car went to a sub 400RPM idle. Now it sits at 500-600 and feels great!

To any that are having this issue (a ton of CL members have commented about this) you may want to use the above part numbers and see if your dealer can help you.

I am one happy camper!!

Great news! Glad to hear that you are now happy and can spend your time focused on modding your car.

Alright Synergy That's great. It's a terrible feeling when your car stalls even worse when it's a LEXUS GS. Hey did ya swap out the Torque Masters? I don't think they would be the problem.
TPS- lever assembly- interesting. I'm glad to hear it all worked out bro.

Just talked with my local dealer, I mentioned that I see Synergy post online.

Kaboom, lexus called back, scheduled for me to take my car in Monday to replace those 2 parts, they said they are not sure if those gonna fix my problem (high possibility that it will), but since I took the car in several times already, they gonna replace those parts for me anyway. Sweet

WOW, talking about lexus service

Wow. While my idle seemed great a week ago when the dealer gave me my car back, it still seems low now and then. I can attest, however, that it is not as low as it was before the new parts were installed....

clean throttle body, the works, but now I understand this problem better. The car have NO low idle problem when the humidity outside is 90-100%, ie after rain, or raining, snowing....
idle in D, stays at 600-650. (we had a whole week of raining here in texas, and I noticed, no idle problem at ALL, for 1 week)

Cold/warm dry weather caused the car to drop the idle state to 400. as soon as it warm up, not rain anymore, the car drop the idle rpm. The idling problem is sensitive to the humidity level in the air, that is why we get different result everyday of the week, the problem comes and go unexpected.

thus, what sensor could be effected by the humidity? definitely not the throttle posittion sensor, maybe the MAP sensor?

yeah, mine comes and goes go. sometimes it feels great, sometimes it just annoys the crap out of me.

i do agree with banana tho. if the temperature is colder, the car seems to idle smoother for me. in higher temps, like 75+, the car tends to shake a bit. wonder what could be the cause to this.

i've tried getting a t-body cleaned, engine decarb, fuel system clean, new air filter, everything. but for most part, after all this, it does idle better the majority of the time, but the rough idle is still here.

LET'S SUE LEXUS!

I am with you guys, it really is hit or miss. The weather could very well be the reason for this...who knows.

Frusterating tho!!!!
