Default L-tuned Exhaust

I'm looking for a quiet exhaust (cat-back) setup. So far I have heard that the L-tuned is quiet with a deep sound. I'd like others' opinions that have L-tuned or even other brands.

Default Quiet is a relative term

If you are looking for quiet in relation to stock, there is nothing more quiet or as quiet as stock. However as far as exhausts go, I love the sound of my Borlas, but me and my installer were not thrilled with the hanger system. The L-Tuned is probably the closest sounding to the Borlas, and has the best (from what I've seen) hanger system around..It uses the exact same system as the factory mufflers. I'd try to see if you can meet up with some local guys who have a few of the exhausts available and hear them for yourself.

I have the RMM exhaust and it too is subtle when you want it to be but can sound pretty mean at high rev's.And it also is a breeze to install, utilizing all the factory hangers

l-sportline is a spendy little thing but i believe it is one step up in loudness compared to borlas or l-tuned. definitely louder than stock. you'll hear it inside and outside, but its also a deep sound and honda-like. but its very long if you have a stock bumper or anything not l-sportline. you "might" like that look for all i know though

oh, and these two have a good hanger system, i believe it was all stock parts. in the box was only the exhausts (no parts) and it was installed without any drama

L-tuned is absolutely perfect IMHO.. Nice grumble when you stomp on it and quiet while just cruising around.. Easy to install but the price break of the Borla's makes up for extra work involved with installing them.. In the end I got a "killer" price break from my TRD/L-Tuned parts manager up here so I got the L-Tuned since they wanted to train their service people and take some photos for future sales.. Win, Win for all involved!

Pros for L-Tuned:
Easy Install
Warranty approved if installed by Lexus
Fill out the rear of the GS better IMO than Borla

Cons for L-Tuned
Price
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros for Borla:
Price
Borla sounds basically the same as L-Tuned

Cons
Installation

Either way you go you can't really lose.. Hope that helps!

anyone has a simple DIY set of instructions on swapping out the mufflers? I am going to raise the car with a friend's help, and am wondering if there is anything i need to be careful of in removing stock, and installing the ltuned.

TIA,

btw, 2savvy, great description, thank you very much.

Thumbs up L-Tuned

I just put the L-Tuned mufflers on my GS430 2 mo. ago, and I was like u, I didn't want something too loud, but you know it's there. I'm glad I got them, their perfect sounding and easy to install.

I really like my L-Tuned. It took my mechanic 1/2 hour to change from stock to L-Tuned. He had a handy hook tool for the rubber hangers that made it easier to install them.

Good luck.

here's a picture for more reference. that's the stock exhaust on the right. but it seems like the l-tuned or the borlas would work for you

Is that an L-tuned or an L-Sportline? i thought the l-tuned looked different than that. looks like the l-sportline one.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'd like to hear from the ones that voted for "other fish in the sea". Can you guys give me more options?

Did the LTuned conversion many months back. It is very simple and is can be done by one person.

Problem areas:
Breaking free the old bolts. Saturate overnight with liquid wrench.
Loosen both bolts 1/2 a turn, to ensure you can disassemble.
Limited space with no lift. (specially if the car has been lowered).

Trick:
Spin the muffler out of the rubber O ring hangers. There are two ring and one is larger than the other so remember wich came off muffler first and which came off second. Reverse the order as you hang in the new one.
Tighten the new bolts evenly to seat the gasket/flange.

Looks great and sonds great.
There is a drone in the cab at cruisng speed which can be drowned by the stero.

Wife gave the mod a thumb down rest every one loves it.

One thing I would like to add to salimshah great post on this subject.. If your car is a year or two old definately tell whoever you are buying the L-Tuned mufflers from to supply you with new metal gaskets since they don't come with the mufflers.. Hope that helps!

im lazy so i didnt read any of the posts except hte first oen, but look very deeply into the Apex'i WS exhaust, its Cat-Back, Oval shape not to overrated, quiet and very very nice. Racing Aristo told me its as quiet as borla but with higher HP gains, as well as cat-back. Plus i would always rather a Japanese part over an American part (call me rasist if you must)

PM Manaray and RacingAristo and get their inputs.
