For those who have the tranny coolers, what kinda temps are you guys seeing, while driving, at a stand still, in boost ( or none) ... As I've talked to couple people, the 200 degree point is where you should back off an let tranny get back into the 160-170's ... Of course this would require to have a tranny temp gauge as I do.

which fittings of this list are used for the trans itself (to replace the metal hardlines)?

it's the trans-side fittings I'm looking for. The trans is (2, in/out) 16mm x 1.5 fitting Inverted Flare right?

16x1.5 inverted is if you replaced at the hardlines, 14x1.5 is to replace at the trans, if replacing at the trans the end type doesn't matter at there is no bottom, the o-ring makes the seal.

It doesn't matter which fitting you replace it will work the same either way..

At the trans like Sakataj is doing would be these: http://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/670520/10002/-1

ahh perfect, thanks gents.

I plan on going with -8 hose and a bigger cooler as I plan on bypassing the in-rad heat exchanger (since i'll be switching it out soon for an alum piece).
http://www.jegs.com/i/Earl%26%23039%...19EFH/10002/-1 would be the correct piece right? with the OEM O-Rings of course.

The sizing is dependent on if the cooler I want is available in -8an in/out, if not then -6 it is

Upsizing the diameter isn't necessarily beneficial. As you increase the volume you are moving the velocity will decrease because trans is still pumping it at the same flow rate. -6 to -8 is marginal and should be fine either way with a single or dual coolers. But any system can only flow as much as it's smallest orifice which is the bottle neck. So you can put a -16 line on it, but the stock fittings in the tranny have the i.d. of a -6 so it's not providing any real benefit.

Keep in mind you can defiantly overcool the the fluid as well which is bad if your putting some kinda of huge cooler on there. A thermostatic valve can prove useful when the trans is not under heavy load or in the winter.

they do? 14mm=.55in, so i figured the ID would be right around 1/2in, which is closer to -8AN (1/2" hose OD). -6AN is 3/8in hose OD.

I'll do a little more research nonetheless before I order parts.

I noticed a lot of you are mounting the transcooler wrong the fittings should not be pointed downward it should be pointed up or pointed to the left side or right side. Having the the fittings pointed downward can cause a air pocket making the cooler less effective.
Look at this PDF link from B&M...

A year since the last post (sue me)

I added a trans cooler to my '03 GS300 not so long ago. I actually dc'd the line and ran it to a bucket so I could observe the flow. For me the passenger side line was the return. This might not be the case for a GS400/430 etc. Never hurts to verify.

Default Official Tranny Cooler Thread for the 2GS

I am looking for some 1UZFE owners w/ Trans coolers and also have needle or digital gauges. Will those who do, if you have a moment, let me know what your High temp readings are? I'd really like to compare yours to mine. I'll be installing a PI Dragon TC shortly and would like some normal/high temps info from you guys. I'm trying to decide whether I should switch to Amsoil, or if I can stay w/ the Toyota IV ATF. Even in stop 'n go traffic, my gauges (oil or trans temp) rarely go over 205-210F. Just had the transmission flushed/filled by Toyota about 6 mnths ago. I've read in forums that Amsoil runs cooler, but by how much? I haven't seen any real numbers. If any of you HAVE switched, and know the operating temps' difference, that info would be GOLDEN! Thanx in advance...
