You basically have to shime it , i would take it to the dealer if you don't know how to do it.

Older 2jz models required calibration of the tpms sensor when replacing as it was a mechanical sensor. The new 2jz which are in the I.S have electronic tps sensors which are plug and play however the dealer will need to tweak the sensor via scan tool.

tach - just purchased a 00 GS 400 with 108k on it; the trans thuds slightly when shifting into reverse and also when shifting from 1st to second if I do so before warming up car - wouldn't call it banging into gear but halfway there; thuds are less pronounced to nonexistant if car is warm;

also after getting up to speed into 5th gear and then letting car coast with foot off gas pedal the car idles at about 1k rpm but then blips to 1200 rpm as transmission downshifts from 5th to 4th as velocity decreases from about 45 to 40 mph. this does not occur at any other speeds as car decelerates to a stop with foot off gas

i did a trans fluid change - drained pan and disconnected return line from cooler to get about 8 quarts of chocolate colored fluid out total while car was running and me adding T IV fluid; lexus records show previous owner had fluid changed at dealer at 76k; before that change the vehicle does show regular maintenance at lexus dealers

my question is what I can try in the hopes of fixing this or just resolve that it is a 10 yr old trans that has developed these characteristics?

best of luck w opening your shop and hopefully many members on this board will provide plenty of work and referrals

Thanks!!

For the trans changing the fluid when it is very dark can cause issues becuase it develpos deposits. What this means is when you fluid is introduced into the system those deposits break free and enter into the valve body and ends up clogging them causing the poor shifts, miss shifts etc... There really is not much more you can do for the trans and wait it out to get worse and have it rebuilt and/or swapped out with a lower mileage unit. I had my trans in the IS300 warrantied right before it expired and I change the fluid every 15K complete flush so it wont get dark and end up destroying it.

Your shift pattern is the result of the trans as well. IF you want to smooth it out a fraction you can clean out your throttle body, and clean your maf sensor with maf cleaner not brake clean. Hope this helps out

Hey Tach, do you have access to a toyota OBD1 Scanner? I'm trying to set my base timing (93 GS300) but I can not with a timing light.

Hey Tach,

Installed Garax 6k HID bulbs in my 2006 IS yesterday, but for some reason the headlights don't move up or down when you turn the lights on. Any help will be much appreciated as I called the dealership and they mentioned they will charge me $150 just to diagnose the problem. Another dealer mentioned that aftermarket bulbs are the culprit even though there are CL members here who never had this problem.

Also spoke to the guy right after he installed it and he simply made lots of BS excuses including "a squirrel could have gone in and ate the wiring" / "the 2nd gen IS doesn't have AFS" when it clearly has an option to turn it on.

The AFS indicator is not blinking or anything and i checked to ensure AFS is infact on.

Thanks in advance

so i didnt grab up a muffler to test but everything works pretty well now untiul the engine gets to almost exactly 3k rpms, i also noticed a little module thats bolted to my shield for my intake that my friend said deals with vac pressure, it couldve been hit when the spark happened, what do you think?

EDIT: maf sensor codes still coming back, when it gets to 3k rpms it chokes, no misfire codes coming back

Check to see if there are any wires loose or disconnected. To see if the system works Leave the lights on auto. make sure car is off. Start car and you should see the lights move up/down, left/right. If it does that then your o.k. If not then something is wrong with the lights.

You have a brake booster malfunction. There was a service bulletin about your year and model that the booster would malfunction and give abs problems
