i just replaced a headlight bulb(HID) and had to disconnect the negative and unplugged the intake sensor. After the install, a vsc light, engine check and traction control is lit up, what should i do?

reset the battery. If you turned the power on with the intake sensor unplugged it will turn the check engine lights on.

Aha, we were looking up and down the rail for a capped style port but couldn't find it. Thank you.

Update on the initial problem, on a hunch we dumped about half a gallon of gas in the tank and guess what, it fired right up and runs fine.

It appears as though this was never a fuel pump issue but maybe the gauge is broken instead, any thoughts on that? As I mentioned the gauge showed 1/4 tank.

Your needle probably is getting stuck and/or your fuel arm in the pump assembly may be malfunctioning.

Default Timing belt specialty tools

I need to replace the timing belt on my 2000 GS300. Do I need the specialty tools (crankshaft pulley holder & flange holding tool) or can I do the job without them?

Thanks

You can do it without them "IF" you don't run into problems such as the crankshaft pulley being seized on; Then you will need the tool or two big breaker bars to slowly wedge the pulley off. All cars are different some the pulley will slide right off and others you'll be killing yourslef trying to pry it off; I would go to your nearest auto parts store and pick up a universal pulley remover they go for $20-$30 I believe. I got a decent one from autozone a while back and it works great on the 2jz motors. While your in their I will replace the following parts
  • Timing belt ( of course lol )
  • water pump
  • thermostat
  • upper & lower radiator hoses
  • cam seals
  • crank seal
  • timing belt tensioner
  • idler pulleys

If you do decide to change the seals be very careful with the seals. Invest in a repair manual that outlines how to replace the T-belt so you don't have any surprises later.

You wont hear noise from removing the belt and turning the pulleys. Noises occur when under load or belt tension. Check your belt to see if its cracked and/or glazed you may need to replace the belt. Also check the belt tension and see if it has too much slack.

Your best bet is to use a big screwdriver and place it close to the noise to get a better idea where its coming from. Hopefully its not from your timing belt area or idler pulleys.
