I have successfully removed the old emblems from the trunk lid but am having a hard time removing the old 3M foam tape. I have tried Goo Gone without success.
Try nail polish remover. If that doesn't work 3M makes an adhesive remover which is available at an automotive paint supply store. I would also use a razor blade to help scrape off any residue. Be careful not to allow either of these products to stay in contact with the front part of the emblem for very long as it might damage the plating.
Goo Gone sucks! If the stuff isn't coming of easily then goo gone isn't going to help worth a $%!^ And do NOT use a razor blade! You WILL end up slicing up the paint... Trust me ...The best thing to do is go to the local harware store and get some Goof Off (yellow red square tin can) or Oops! (white square tin can)...they should be right next to each other...I prefereabbly like the the Goof Off, but either of these will definitly work...I tried the Goo Gone and razor blade on my '90 Volvo when I took the tarnished badges off of it a few weeks ago...Not worrying too much, I ended up slicing tiny strips of paint off the trunk lid Using the Goof Off, that old glue came off almost instantly w/ no side effects and no heavy pressure or rubbing. I'm sure that if it could get the old glue off of my 12 year old daily driver, it should work just fine on your car...same with my '02 Accord although it was much easier because the badges were fresh and new. Then just give the back end a good wash and your good to go!
