Hi, I am new to the forum and am probably going to buy a 2002 LS 430. My question is what kind of maintenance do these cars need? I know that Benzs have the service pack A and B which occur every few months and costs hundreds to do. Do Lexus vehicles have any kind of high maintenance besides the regular oil changes, etc.
Thanks for the tip. I just don't want to buy a car which costs hundreds to maintain.
Another way to check it out is to go to edmunds and look up the model you are interested in and check out the "cost of ownership" section. It will show you how it compares and what the average costs are.
I had a Mercedes Benz, albeit years ago, and it wasn't expensive to maintain if you did the work yourself. Lexus dealers aren't cheap either. Comments here indicate twice the price of Toyota dealers for the same work (but maybe including refreshments, loaner car, use of plasma TV in waiting rooms, etc.).
Maintaining and working on a Lexus isn't much different than working on a Toyota. Any car dealer is going to charge hundreds for maintenance. And there are a lot of so-called mechanics out there that could potentially do more harm than good, if you go the independent route.
The only economical maintenance route I know of, unless you're lucky enough to find a good independent mechanic, is to do the work yourself.

I thought that on the Mercedes, you had to take it to the dealer to reset when the service pack A or B went on. The dealer was the only one to reset the computer. I was just wondering if there was anything like that on the Lexus. What do Toyota dealerships feel about working on Lexuses?

I was going to offer guidance until I saw that terrible avatar you have. Please replace it immediately with a Cowboy in orange
In Tulsa, Jim Norton will work on your car. I also have my own certified Lexus mechanics who can do all your warranty work. They do all my cars.
And yes, Mercedes does have the stupid A and B service. It is ridiculous. Hell the MB doesn't even have an oil dipstick - you have to do some thing with pressing certain buttons to get an oil level reading
