Default Aftermarket panel air filter

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WD1V

Has anyone heard of this product? My air filter needs to be replaced and I am wondering if I should stick with the OEM air filter or go with this one.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

Looks like a K&N design, oil bathed cotton gauze. As the oil can migrate to air sensors in the intake system, the dry filter does work best. I would only use Toyoda brand. It's best for the money and filtration (then I live in the desert).

Toyota makes their own oiled cotton gauze air filter (K&N style) under their performance TRD line. I guess this means Toyota has given this filter design its seal of approval.

i don't like the K&N style. Just stick with Toyota. If you need that much more airflow, i'd hack the airbox.

I would stick the the stock Toyota filter. The other filters may give you a couple horsepower, but they are louder, do not filter dirt as well as a paper filter, and sometimes the filter oil will ruin your Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter.

Very good info guy!

I am becoming more of a "stock" guy again.

It is a tradefoff depends on where you live and what is important to you. Paper filters better, but not that much better than K&N as we are led to believe. K&N flows better, but not as much as K&N advertises.
Properly oiled filter won't clog up MAF. But if one is silly enough to over oil and let oil drip off, of course it will go to places it should not. I have used Pre-oiled K&N filters on all my cars and there is no problem in combined 12K miles.
If you live in an area that does not have a lot of dust and want to gain a few more HP. K&N or TRD filter is OK since HP gain to $ ratio is high enough to make it a value buy. If one wants to filter every single particles, you should put two or three Toyota filters in series but no one is willing to do that because it kills air flow. So sticking with Toyota paper filter you just choose go along with the tradeoff Toyota made for you. It may or may not be optimal for what you need and your driving condition.
