Default New Key issue

Hey guys,

I just bought another Lexus from the auction, it's an 11 LS460 but my issue is the key they place in the car is the wrong key fob. So I called pop-a-lock they want over $500 and I just got off the phone with Lexus of Orlando they are asking about $600ish but my service advisor stated if the key does not take they would have to reprogram the two computers behind the dash, now my question is what's the best option and is Is it that Serious for the key not to take?

If you don't have any key that works (which is your situation) what the dealer told you is correct. You bought an auction car without being able to start it? Hopefully you got it dirt cheap. You can do an internet search on this subject. If you just needed an extra key, it would be much simpler. I would check with another dealer or two for a competitive price, maybe Toyota can do it for less money.

Ok, pop-a-lock quoted $400 for everything the key, and programming the key. I did when the bid at $1,050 at Copart

Don't forget that you may need the computer in the dash addressed. Just because the locksmith didn't mention the possibility doesn't mean it's not a possibility. (unless I misunderstand your post). Just make sure they can handle that possibility or you may find yourself out $400 (good price) and still can't start the car.

He did mention that, but all is good he was able to have a key cut and made and the car was able to start.

I have 2011 and my key fob does not look like that one. I have both originals.
Also with Techstream software keys can be added and deleted. It also shows how many keys (fobs) are out there that have been made for the car.
So if you buy used or have one stolen or missing, you can simply delete those keys from the profile to ease your mind.
Of course the dealer can do all that too but they like that software an awful lot and it shows.

I am going to have Lexus make another key and use the pop-a-lock key as my spare.

Hey Charles glad you still followed this.
I was thinking about that price and that's absurd.
My dealer wanted 400 for a new fob, hard key and cut, and programming.
I bought my LS460 last summer and they had trouble finding the second fob
So i was haggling for that 400 dollars off the price of the car. Then they found it. Figures.
I don't know about where you are but there is only one Lexus dealer in my state. So I cant just go to another dealer.
Good luck with it.
