Within the last week, I noticed the following 3 lights in my dashboard are out:
-Eject
-Fan off
-Fan down
I have a 2017 (had the car for 46 months) with 47,000 miles, so I assume this isn't covered by a warranty. Anyone else seen this? I assume it will be expensive to fix due to the labor.
Update - took it to the Lexus dealership. They said it was under warranty, and they replaced the entire radio/head unit for free! So glad I snuck in right before the warranty ended.
-One interesting development was they gave me a GX as a loaner, and now my wife wants one :-)
Another update, the Lexus dealership replaced the radio head under warranty in 2021. However, 3 lights have gone out on the replacement radio head unit.
I found out that Tanin Auto Electronix, a ClubLexus forum sponsor, offers a repair service for this problem:
I pulled the radio head unit yesterday and sent it off to them via UPS. I pulled the car into the driveway to pull the head unit, and then pulled it back into the garage when I was done. An airbag warning light came on, so I assume I should not drive the car until the radio head unit is re-installed. I'm a bit nervous of not being able to drive my car for a couple weeks, and hope this all works out.
I'll keep the forum updated on the process, but it will be nice to have working climate control lights again.
I got my radio head unit back from Tanin Auto, and they did a great job of replacing all the LED backlights. Their website link for the service gives a warning that the color matching will not be exact. But I was actually impressed with the color matching - notice how close the color is on the head unit to the Engine Start/Stop button and Auto parking brake. It has basically the same very light blue hue to them. Very pleased.
The turnaround time was about 3 weeks total, including shipping both ways from California to Wisconsin. There are expedited options.
Cool! And if anyone doesn't feel comfortable removing/installing the head unit, a competent auto stereo store would do it for a couple hundred dollars, tops. Still a big savings. A replacement head unit at the dealer is a couple thousand!
