Default Car Won't Start...battery?

So my car is completely dead this has happened 3 times, I don't drive it for 3 days and then its dead and I have to jump it. The battery is 14 months old. What can I do? Should I disconnect battery and let it reset and make sure connections are tight? Anything special I should do or be careful of? This is a 2008 LS 460

Take the battery back for a new one under warranty, then fix the parasitic power draw issue (likely a bad door switch, mentioned in other threads).

I did not buy the new battery but it was bought at a Toyota Dealer, I am sure they will still honor it correct?

Have it load tested before you go thru the hassle. It may be perfectly good and they're not going to give you a new one unless it is bad and under warranty. Advance Auto and others do it free. So that you are aware, the battery must be at full charge before it can be tested which means you may have to leave it. If you have a charger, charge it before having it tested to avoid a wait. Several things could be causing the problem as you probably know.

Can I just disconnect the battery myself any proper way for our cars?

Not sure what your plan is but if you’re going to remove the battery, it’s always neg. cable off first and last on for reinstall.

I'm not sure about Toyota. Our Lexus dealer will only honor a battery warranty if the previous owner paid the dealer to install it. If the previous owner bought it and installed it themselves they will not cover it.

Make sense but I want to call and ask if they actually installed an interstate battery, guy at advanced said they dont have a real presence here so the fact Toyota installed one doesn't seem right. So there could be a draw, otherwise why 2 batteries in 6 months.

I can't imagine any dealer selling any part that is not from it's own OEM. As far as Interstate, they are good batteries. Costco has the group 24 which is for an LS460 w/o cold weather package. I just got 1 for my '11, $99 plus core. I doubt you'll beat that price.

Re the possible drain, Google it and you'll find how to do it with a multimeter. Another test would be electrical output. The volt portion of the meter will show the alternator/regulator output which could be the problem if too low. The car needs to be running for this test. The procedure can also be found by Googling.

Keep in mind that the battery could be your only problem. Actually, you don't seem too sure about it as to where it came from yet you say is 14 months old. Batteries have date codes on them and Googling will show you how to locate it. You may find the battery is much older that 14 months.

You are getting there. Good luck!

BTW, I just checked the price of a battery from Lexus.....$699.21, discounted from $777.21. (YIKES)

I got the date from Toyota but I have to call them and see what brand they put in tomorrow. Because my battery says May of 2020 so it cannot be the same battery. So thats what I mean possibly 2 batteries in 6 months dont sound right. The dealer installed one Oct 2019

I have to take Lexus in for my ZLZ program installation Friday so I assume they can locate the problem or draw?

So the battery is being charge right now, but I have a question in general. When you shut your car off and hit the push button once, does the car go off? I never pay attention and maybe its staying in accessory mode? Thoughts, ideas?

when the engine is running, if you just press it once properly it turns the engine off. If you car is is accessory or what’s the other one if you hit it twice without the brake pedal, ignition on ? In those modes the car won’t lock. Try it to see if I am right.

one common battery draw is the door jamb switch, so all 4 doors open, the door light at the bottom of the door is on, theres a black switch that depresses when the door closes. If the switch is defective you can test it. Depress the switch, does the light go off? If not right there you know it’s defective. If you wiggle it up and down does the light go on and off ? ( not depress it ) but up and down if the light flickers and is affected in any way then it’s defective. That’s the best one to check.

Also is your alternator working at 100%, something people need to be aware of, is that even if your while charging system works 100% depending on your driving habits, what you have on etc, each time you drive you can be using more than your alternator is putting out. Is this true in your case I don’t know, I know it is technically possible. It’s something no one really discusses. People not really interested in root causes if they can go swap a battery 😂😂. So what your alternator puts out at idle and at 2000rpm or whatever is all different. And if you have your heat or ac or your music on loud, what’s the outside temperature. Are all your connections tight, engine dirty also affects batteries brake dust and engine dirt can be a draw on a battery, theres 1001things.

if I had a garage and it’s viable for me to do I’d put my car on a battery tender every night or as often as I can.

I appreciate the information and I will check the light ordeal when I get home. I was told my battery is fully charged and came back good. So its not the actual battery that's the problem.
