Benchmarking sets the warning thresholds to 25% below the tire pressures that are reported when the SET switch is pressed. If all the tire pressures were at 33 PSI when the benchmark set switch is pressed the low pressure warning thresholds for all would be set to about 24.75 PSI. Although all wheels are benchmarked simultaneously the thresholds are independent. This allows a wide range of pressures to be used on different wheels, a situation that you might encounter when using different tires on front and rear. The warning system operates in the background and requires no monitoring. If one or more of the reported pressures falls below the warning threshold the system will give a visual and audible alert.

What could be wrong, all sensors dead and why no multi display? Any suggestions before I have to humble myself at the dealer.
When I bought my 2015 LS the sensors were blank (I hadn't noticed at the dealer). Later discovered that the original owner had to spite the low mileage replaced a sensor and used a non OEM one. This resulted in all the sensors failing to read. Changed out the bad one to OEM...issue resolved. Perhaps take a look and make sure they are all genuine sensors.

if your psi display does not show anything then go to Discount Tire and have them "wake up" the TPMS
sensors with their hand held thing

Just recently purchased a '10 460 - 70k, and very clean. Dealer put new tires on, and I've been driving it, no problems.
A month ago I used Carista to check things, and it saw the registered numbers for the sensors. I didn't do any fidddling around.
This week, the pressure warning light came on. Just now returned from Discount - they set all at 33 (electronic-reading device), I pulled the cover off of the "switch", all ready to push it, as per the instructions, and I can't push it at all. I wouldn't know if it is "broken" - pushed in and frozen - because I don't know if it is supposed to be "popped out". I pushed on it, did not depress at all, and I didn't see anything in the multi-info display. Does the display need to be in a specific setting?
Confused, and in following the forum, you seem to be expert in many things.
Additionally - I am hearing the wind noise. Not used to any noise - I've owned a '98 400 since '-01 - 190k added, and it is very quiet. How did you "easily fix" it? I've come upon one forum that suggests working on that triangle part by the mirror. Would love to hear your expertise.
Thank you

Thank you very much, for that help.
Any thoughts about the TPWS button matter?

So, what are your indications now? Do you have a message that says something like LOW PRESSURE WARNING or TPMS FAILURE - CONTACT DEALER or something else or no message/warning lights now?

Here is a picture of the TPMS Benchmark SET switch from my '07 LS460. Does your car's TPMS Benchmark SET switch look anything like this?

A tire profile light has appeared on the screen.
And no - this is not what mine looks like.

I'm trying to Google for 2010 LS 460 TPMS button, but not finding success.
Your wind noise website is excellent. That Alan guy, from back in '08, seems like quite the character!

And this is where it should be, as noted in the Manual.

Found it. Had to look lower in, towards the gas pedal
As I mentioned earlier - I had Discount set all 4 at 33 this morning. Cold. Then I drove, and the warning light did not go off. Malfunction in the system?
What does the benchmark reset really do? I've done some reading on it, but not real clear.
As always, your expertise is appreciated.

Your car has 5 TPMS sensors, one is on the spare in the trunk. If the message is ‘malfunction” instead of “low pressure” then you likely have a sensor problem. Sounds like Discount is either not able to help you or not interested. Try going to Sam’sClub/Walmart or Costco.

The benchmarking establishes the low pressure warning thresholds at 25% below the pressures when the Set switch was pressed.

Thank you again. I've done some more reading of yours, on benchmark, and have a better understanding.
I think the issue is going to be a dead sensor. The car is 10 years old. Will check with Costco.
Are all sensors "made alike". Recommend? Avoid?
Discount Tire's bundle pkg around $60 - sensor, install, register - likelihood of sensor being less-than-stellar?
Other recommendations? I believe I'm going to move ahead and replace all 5, and then know what I have, for the future.
Thank you again, Jim.

For the 2007 Lexus LS460, I have just confirmed that the TPMS 'telltale' low pressure warning & yellow warning lights have a built-in 'floor' so as to trigger at no lower than 26-27psi.

I did the TPMS tire pressure warning initializing/benchmarking/resetting process … as described in the 2007 Lexus LS460 Owner's Manual (page 513) … when all five tires were all sensing at 30psi on the TFT Multi-Information Display. The telltales are supposed to be set to 25% less than the benchmark (an undocumented parameter, but general conventional wisdom within these boards). That implies, that, were there no telltale floor, the telltales would have been set to trigger at about 22.5psi.

Nevertheless, the telltales triggered at 26-27psi. (I attribute that variance to the undocumented method of 'rounding/truncating' being used to display integer psi values.) That trigger floor works out, btw, to be almost exactly 20% less than the generally recommended pressure of 33psi.

From all that, I am going to surmise the (undocumented) rule is that the telltales are set to trigger at 20% of the initialized/benchmarked/reset pressure, with the minimum allowable initialized/benchmarked/reset pressure being 33psi.

That there is a telltale 'floor' is actually subtly implied in the 2007 Lexus LS460 Owner's Manual (page 513) when it states that "the tire pressure warning system must be initialized(/benchmarked/reset) … when driving with the tires inflated to a higher than standard tire pressure."

Further that implies the advisement in the 2007 Lexus LS460 Owner's Manual (page 598) that "when the battery is removed or discharged, the tire pressure warning system must be initialized(/benchmarked/reset)" is almost certainly moot … if your tires are sensing at 33psi or less.

Summarized another way, it appears the TPMS initializing/benchmarking/resetting pressure process is really only intended for use when the driver is, for whatever reason, running tires at a pressure above the generally recommended pressure of 33psi … and the driver wants to ensure that the telltales trigger at higher values accordingly.

As an aside, I saw a number of discussions on these boards regarding pricing & sourcing of replacement sensors. What I discovered currently (mid-2021) regarding that is that (1) a Denso 5500103 sensor can be sourced from Amazon [ https://amzn.to/3AUxtBH ] or RockAuto [ https://bit.ly/3y37Kp4 ] or DensoProducts [ https://bit.ly/3B1MxxL ] for about $30, (2) that eBay has a number of vendors selling a set of four no-name-brand sensors to replace Toyota 42607-33021 for $35 [ https://ebay.to/2W8VEgK ] and (3) that Discount Tire will sell, then physically & electronically install, an aftermarket sensor for about $60 each.

My understanding is that a Japanese company named Pacific Industrial manufactures the sensors for Denso, that in turn sells them to Toyota.
