Default Do I have to fix the left front shock assembly

Hi guys currently I am having a 07 ls460l, yesterday I took the car to the lexus dealer and after inspection they gave me this:

REC REPLACING LEFT FRONT SHOCK ASSEMBLY WITH MOUNT. (FOUND LEFT FRONT AIR SHOCK LEAKING OIL)

which costs 2100 dollars, I think it is pretty expensive. What would happen if I dont fix it? I didnt even notice it was a problem until they tell me.

Thanks in advance.

That is very expensive. You can go to a indy shop to get a second opinion and replaced for a fraction of what they are quoting you. I have seen OEM ones on Ebay for around 750. Me personally I have given up on the dealer. Everytime I brought my car into the dealer to have some work done I end up with a new problem. Almost like they are sabotaging to make some extra money from my warranty.

Get a second opinion and if it needs to be done find a good Independent shop. the shock and mount should cost about $1100 new from lexus but should not cost a $1k in labor which would be about 7-7 1/2 hours in labor at the dealer.

You can also try Arnott for a replacement strut.

Yeesh, all these Airshock repair posts popping up makes me glad that I have regular shocks! I paid $350 TOTAL to replace BOTH my front struts and mounts, KYB Parts $280, took the strut out myself and paid a family mechanic $70 to put them together, then reinstalled myself.

I'd just live with it until you notice any symptoms in the steering/suspension or unusual noises.

At what mileage did you replace them and what were the symptoms that prompted you to replace them? What are the part numbers and where did you buy them from?
I don't think I need them yet but want to keep an eye when time comes.

I got everything from RockAuto. KYB Gas-A-Just . KYBs are oem shocks. The original ones say KYB on them. Gas-A-Just is the newer version. I changed mine out around 92K miles. Did not have any knocking sounds over bumps or leaking. I probably could have went another 10K miles with no problems.
If you can bounce your car up and down by hand somewhat easily then your struts may be wearing down. My rear struts didn't budge so they were fine. With new front struts I need to be careful not to put any palm dents in the fender since it is now hard to bounce up and down by hand. The new struts react much fast over bumps now and even more comfortable with the 19 inch wheels. Better handing and my car doesn't dive forward as much when braking hard.
I tried using a spring compressor tool to save even more money but did not have the greatest luck with it and also it felt dangerous. The spring is long and took a bit of time to compress. If you DIY, get a few quotes from a shop to rebuild the strut with new shocks and mount. Don't mention that is a Lexus so they won't boost the labor price on you. It really takes no time to put them together with the shop strut compression machine. If they charge you under a $100 then that's a good deal imo.

I have a phobia of mechanics in general , I bet if they installed hidden cameras in 100 shops you would find 95 of them committing consumer fraud/scams of some sort.

Yep, and use that $2100 for a nice trip to asia,, send them a few selfies on the beach with that middle finger in clear sight.
