Do I have to fix the left front shock assembly
Hi guys currently I am having a 07 ls460l, yesterday I took the car to the lexus dealer and after inspection they gave me this:
REC REPLACING LEFT FRONT SHOCK ASSEMBLY WITH MOUNT. (FOUND LEFT FRONT AIR SHOCK LEAKING OIL)
which costs 2100 dollars, I think it is pretty expensive. What would happen if I dont fix it? I didnt even notice it was a problem until they tell me.
Thanks in advance.

That is very expensive. You can go to a indy shop to get a second opinion and replaced for a fraction of what they are quoting you. I have seen OEM ones on Ebay for around 750. Me personally I have given up on the dealer. Everytime I brought my car into the dealer to have some work done I end up with a new problem. Almost like they are sabotaging to make some extra money from my warranty.

Yeesh, all these Airshock repair posts popping up makes me glad that I have regular shocks! I paid $350 TOTAL to replace BOTH my front struts and mounts, KYB Parts $280, took the strut out myself and paid a family mechanic $70 to put them together, then reinstalled myself.

I don't think I need them yet but want to keep an eye when time comes.

If you can bounce your car up and down by hand somewhat easily then your struts may be wearing down. My rear struts didn't budge so they were fine. With new front struts I need to be careful not to put any palm dents in the fender since it is now hard to bounce up and down by hand. The new struts react much fast over bumps now and even more comfortable with the 19 inch wheels. Better handing and my car doesn't dive forward as much when braking hard.
I tried using a spring compressor tool to save even more money but did not have the greatest luck with it and also it felt dangerous. The spring is long and took a bit of time to compress. If you DIY, get a few quotes from a shop to rebuild the strut with new shocks and mount. Don't mention that is a Lexus so they won't boost the labor price on you. It really takes no time to put them together with the shop strut compression machine. If they charge you under a $100 then that's a good deal imo.
