Unhappy Door Locks not working!!! Help!

My 2013 LS460 Door locks will not work with my remote or even if i press the door lock/unlock switch, they worked at one point but then gradually the back door locks stop working then the drivers side and now finally they all stopped. Im out of warranty so when i went to dealer the guy told me they had to replace the whole door lock units and that it would cost a little over $5000!!!! I almost passed out! I knew that toyota in general has a door lock actuator problem but not in the 5K range. At this point im trying to see if there is an alternative to this issue maybe a fuse? or a website where i can find the parts cheaper or if the guy at the dealer was trying to take me for a ride and take my money, at this point i need help, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did they all abrupt stop working or the just kind of faded out? Sounds more like just a wiring issue like a bad connection causing a big voltage drop. You would probably be doing yourself a favor to find a good auto electrician that can pinpoint the problem vs just jumping straight to replacing everything.

Yes they gradually went out.

If they gradually faded out I would really suspect just a bad wire/connection or ground problem and well worth the time it would take a good auto electrician to properly troubleshoot and fix.

Actually, if they all gradually went out, it could be gradually deteriorating ground/power connection or a bad batch of actuator motors. Either way, go back to the dealer and ask them to contact Lexus for a more thorough diagnosis and, if necessary, goodwill replacement.

I did and was told they could not help.

If it is bad door lock actuators which it sounds like it is I would write Lexus corporate a very angry letter and also call them and go as high up as you can. I would tell them they have had a known door lock actuator problem for 20 years and have still never bothered to design a proper door lock actuator that lasts and then have the nerve to still charge owners to fix them at outrageous costs. $5000 for 4 door lock actuators!! Are they really just gouging you that bad for the sake of buying/owning a LS460 over lower end models. They used to be around $500 to repair which is highway robbery but now they are trying to gouge buyers over twice that already outrageous price for fixing their notorious design failure just because it is a LS. That is unacceptable and taking advantage of customers.

Whatever you do, do not spend that kind of money at the dealership to fix your door lock actuators, total waste of money you will never get back. If worst comes to worst get some on ebay and do it yourself even if it is a pain.
