The Armstrong PU bushes installed on the upper control arms started to make some donkey bray 'eek nork' sound driving over road humps.

I have used grease on them liberally prior to installation but I guess this started to wear off recently. The PU bushes were also kind of 'loose' sitting in their control arms such that they 'rotate' a bit too much when the wheels are turned.

Not feeling comfortable and slightly annoyed by the noise, I'd changed them out.

Got them installed on the very day I received them in the mail and the car feels even tighter at the front when going around bends - that was my first impression. It has been almost a week now, no problem whatsoever, I guess I am done with this project.

I noticed ebay and a few other places sell rear control arm bushing for our car part # 48640-50070. This is the same one for the front lower control arm. I'm wondering if they missed id it or the rear uses the same bushing as front?

This bushing is meant for the front (of the car) rear lower control arm. I think you obviously know where this arm is located in our car.

Hi, is it possible to know the name of the workshop in Singapore? I have a 2008 LS460 and was told the front lower arm bushings need changing. All 8 of them. The price quoted is too high for me. I would like to find an alternative solution. Thanks so much.

 

So, it seems like this problem stretches across all the 07's, and possibly up to the 09's. What happens if you don't fix it, and let it go? I took my 07 to one dealership, and they quoted me 4,400.00 to replace all of the control arms. Then, I took it to another dealership and they said it's no big deal. The problem with my car is now it is now in its car history report, and I have to disclose it when I sell it.

What do you think?

 

Is this a California thing? What happened to "As-Is"?

 

I'm scheduled into my former shop shop foreman's new shop Monday afternoon to replace all eight control arms on my '07. This car has had a slight pull to the right since new so I also got both positive offset upper brackets to raise the camber on the left side and the forward bracket for the right side to raise that caster some. The local Lexus dealer in Austin had all the parts in stock. They gave me net pricing on parts, $2713.28 with tax for all of it. The parts manager there says they sell lots these arms and brackets.

This shop only charges $70/hr. and I'm guessing about 4 hours for this. If all goes well, I'll get the alignment done Tuesday morning. I'll post results in a few days after some driving.

 

Got all eight arms installed this afternoon. It took 3 1/2 hours. All the nuts and bolts involved were in good shape and no ball joint studs were stuck in the knuckles. My friend even tightened all the arms with the suspension at normal ride height. This is critical if you want the new bushed arms to last. With the offset brackets in, the front caster and camber came into spec nicely so the old right pull is gone! Looks like I need to drive this great old car for a good while to get my moneys worth out of this!
