So this makes me a bit more peeved at my dealer - instead of VIN number breaks and all that, he should have just told me to inspect the windows to see if it looks like two sheets or one.
Most customers probably buy the BS, thus eliminating the need for the dealership to address the issue. Good for you for doing your homework.
I don't know about what others think, but I'm struggling with this note on TSIB-NV009-07:

It is important to note that this TSIB addresses unusual interior noises caused by slight variations in certain parts, and by carefully following the instructions in this TSIB, these noises can be improved. Your customers must be aware that some level of wind turbulence noise, especially in cross wind conditions, is present in all vehicles. A vehicle, such as the LS 460, which is one of the quietest vehicles on the market today, may tend to draw attention to normal wind turbulence or rushing sounds because of the relative absence of other ambient noises.
Why then does the noise dissipate significantly when the window is cracked open slightly? And, why did Lexus choose the laminated glass versus single pane tempered glass on the LWB? They must have known early on, and just decided to roll the dice on this one...

i think the use of laminated glass was purely a "level" choice. it's almost a given that laminated glass will make the car quieter, and it's proven on the ls430. maybe due to some reasons they believe the ls460 with normal glass should be acceptable, but obviously some batch of the vehicles are not. putting laminated glass on lwb is just a sign of "standard upgrades" for people who are willing to pay more

In my case, they have not licked the problem completely - I still hear wind noise creeping in at the top edge of the window anytime I hit 50 or so MPH or higher. I think the crosswind comment is baloney - I've never had a car, even for a quarter of the price, that made a wind sucking sound like this. And I hear the issue even on calm days. So while TSB helps with overall quietness, the leaky wind sound remains. Why some have it and some don't, who knows...maybe some aren't tuned to hearing it...

obviously i don't have the car so i can't experience anything or give any comments, but i am wondering if it's possible for owners to put on more insulations themselves? it seems to me the problem is "simply" (i put it in quote coz' that's my impression) that the windows don't seal fully enough. it shouldn't be that hard to pull down the windows rubber seal, maybe stick more foam in there?
Well in my case there's no wind noise anymore. And mind you, it was loud before.
IMO this is a design issue, either on the parts, the front doors or both. When I do the $1 test (closing the door on a dollar bill and sliding it through the door seal) there's a lot of resistance, telling me the seal is tight.
Window up using the auto feature makes it stop at the top with quiete a bit of pressure, to the point that I can see a slight outward movement of the (now laminated) glass itself.
For me what matters is that the problem is solved, and I feel sorry for those of you that had the repair done with less than perfect results.
The TSIB was done to my car and it's 70% better but still not as quiet as any other car I've owned. I called Lex corp and told them how I felt. They said "sorry" and gave me 3 free oil changes. I told them I don't want free oil changes. I want, when it's released a newly designed part to fix this problem even if my car is out of warranty. I got no reponce.
You know Lexus will redesign a new door glass sill/gasket in time to come. It might even take them years but all I want is the redesigned part under warranty. Their is no way in hell the cheap insulation is the permanent fix. IT IS PURELY A BAND AID.
So, it sounds like there is no clean fix on the wind noise. Sometimes it works to a degree, other times it's less effective. Also, seems like they do different things on different cars.

I just picked my car up today after the wind noise fix. I test drove it with the regional technical rep for NJ, MD, VA, and maybe WV. They changed out the glass on the up front doors and did some other things under the TSB. Our dealer performed the work and I rode with the service manager as well. I must say that 90% of the wind noise is gone. It is not completely gone but it is far better and frankly good enough for me. I was very impressed with the professionalism of all involved and they told me Lexus cares a great deal about customers and their concerns. They are committed to solving this and will do so. My feeling is if you are not happy with your repair let them know and they will fix it. As for my center console creaks and pops, that is another story and I told him clearly that this plastic on plastic stressing has to go. Lexus needs to replace the plastic with something higher in quality and they need to insulate the dash better. I also went off on the lousy glove box design which still rattles on certain types of pavement. On my way home I decided the problems that remain, while annoying in any car, are far more minor than others that I have had with German cars and the service and attention Lexus has shown me is second to none. All mechanical things will have flaws and I'm not about to give Lexus an A for the LS460. I will, however, give it a B and I think it still represents one heck of a car for the money. That being said, I'll keep you posted on if the rattles return in a quantity enough to annoy me. If so then I'm out. If not then I'll keep the car. BTW, I had a chance to look at an LS600H today and the interior is very similar to the regular car in person. I wonder if it has any wind noise or rattles??? I wonder indeed. Good luck all.
I keep up with this thread since it is so popular, but what I can't understand is what exactly is causing the wind noise and what did Lexus do in the last made 2007 vehicles that cured the problem?
My vehicle was built in May and I took delivery July 2nd. The first thing I did was take it out on the highway to see if I had the dreaded wind noise. Up to 85 mph and not a whisper of noise. Also no rattles, no problems with the glove box nor the center console.
Many years ago my father told me to hope that I never bought a car built on a Monday. That still may hold true.
As for my center console creaks and pops, that is another story and I told him clearly that this plastic on plastic stressing has to go. Lexus needs to replace the plastic with something higher in quality and they need to insulate the dash better.
I was curious if they fixed the creaks and pops in your center console?!? I have the exact same popping and creaking noises. My center console (around the gear shift area) creaks and pops when my car makes a turn at a corner or when I pull into a driveway. It sounds like it is coming from the contact between the vinyl and wood contact points. Could you tell me how your dealer fixed your center console noises?
I'm ready to bring my car in for the wind noise, transmission tsb, and have them fix the center console noises too!
The center console creaks and pops are a work in progress. They felted some of it and made sure all clips were firmly in. However, I don't think we will every get all of the creaks and pops out. I particularly hate the noise when you turn your car and or stop somewhat quickly. I would only expect them on a rough bump. Anyway, have your dealer give it a try and Lexus knows about the issue. I will keep you posted. If it bothers me too much I won't keep the car as I hate, hate, hate, creaks and rattles unless I'm in an older SUV and I expect such things. Good luck and keep us posted.
I just bought a new 2007 LS 460 on Sunday, August 12th. For the first four days, I didn't have any noise. Today, I get in the car and, yep--wind noise. No mistaking it: loud, shrill, whistling coming from the passenger's side-view mirror. I can hear it over the radio. I'm not sure why it magically started, but I don't suspect it's going to magically stop.
I called the dealer. A regional Lexus service representative just arrived at their dealership to help them apply the fix to two other cars (and now mine). They scheduled me for this coming Tuesday. They acknowledge and understand the problem and will fix both sides (even though I only hear it from the passenger's side).
Although I didn't follow everything he said, the local service guy I talked to on the phone said the fix involves a few things:
1. Replace LS 460 Glass with LS 460L Glass
2. Insulate the trim around the mirror
3. Something about laminate?
They said they can do it without breaking, scratching or otherwise defiling any part of the vehicle. They said it will take one day.
I will post results and comments on Wednesday night.
