2 beeps and driver door won't lock
When i went in the house tonight, i pressed the Lock button on the key fob and my '04 LS430 beeped, then beeped again. The driver's door isn't locking with the fob. I also cannot lock it with the power switch inside the car. Pushing the actual lock indicator, it doesn't seem to let me push it far enough. The battery was disconnected today for a time. Does a failed actuator make the car beep twice? When i press the lock button in the car or with the fob, the actual switch does move, but kind of halfway locks and then unlocks. I also cannot lock the door with the key. Is this all an actuator, or more likely actually the linkage? I would assume a failed actuator would still let me physically lock the door, and it wouldn't beep twice. The other doors do lock, all other smart key functions work etc. Thanks
That sounds like something in the linkage is binding.
When you push the lock button on the FOB, it should just beep once as everything closes, but if the beep turns into a steady ringing tone, or if it does anything else, it's likely detecting some sort of problem and notifying you that something is amiss.
I have a 2003 Camry that has a similar problem with one of the back doors. Not sure what it is (it's a door I don't use often and I just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet) but usually it won't electrically unlock at all, but on the rare occasion it does, the car isn't able to electrically relock the door unless you physically push the lock lever closed. When it does this, all the other doors lock, but the car doesn't make that signature beep sound, letting you know that something is amiss.
Sounds like you are going to have to pop off the door panel and see what the issue is. Could just be that something un-snapped and just needs to be popped back in.

I removed the door panel and the cable to the actual lock pivot indicator thing had popped out of the mounting. Snapped it back again, all is good. Thanks. The little white plastic one that just snaps in.
