My driver's side door lock is not locking when I press the key or lock button on the door. it only closes manually or when I use the keyhole on my door. It works maybe once a day when I unlock the car after leaving it for a few hours/overnight Does this mean my lock motor is busted? is it an easy fix?
I would say your actuator is not working--my car was in this condition when I bought it used. I also noted that none of the buttons on the doors worked, to lock, and touching the handles, did not unlock.
I have seen the write up and it's not that bad, but I did not DIY, the selling dealership fixed it for free...it's worth a shot..if I have another break, I would try it....

Let me rephrase what you said for clarity. Your driver's door lock doesn't lock when you press the key FOB, and doesn't lock when you push the black lock PAD on the door handle. It locks properly when you use your finger to lock it on the door panel, and also locks when you insert the metal key into the door and rotate to lock it. However, the door locks SOMETIMES, when using the SmartKey feature or power lock feature or the door handle (black pad) feature.
If all that is accurate, you have the same issue as me. Your lock actuator is failing. That's a very common failure as these cars age. I was going to buy the actuator yesterday but didn't get around to it.....

Here's a graph representing the price history of the actuator. I guess Ripoff-Azon received enough website "hits" so they raised the price. They do that FREQUENTLY.
I just posted one for sale in the classified section. For 2001 to 2003, front drivers door. My '03 was totaled before it could be installed and I do not think it will fit my '06. PM me if you like.
Good news is changing the lock is very easy compared to a lot of vehicles. Not for sure but could also be a bad connection to the lock solenoid itself. Usually this happens at the lock not the wire harness.

Remove these 3 star head screws circled carefully they have a little washer on them
Unbolt the window rail bolt thats circled
Unclip the metal arm that is attached to the door handle, unclip the harness that goes to the actuator, and then remove the old install the new reverse order and its done super easy to do
