OBD2 Link Error
Hi All,
When I first bought my 2004 I could read the codes with an OBD2 reader with no problems.
I then bought and tried a mini-VCI cable with Techstream (never got it to work) and since then even my old OBD2 reader just gives a Link Error.
Does anyone know how to reset or fix this? I now have another VSC Off/CEL and need to read the codes to find out what it is, but can't.
I may have to resort to going to a Lexus dealer to read the codes.
Thanks,
George

I worry that the chip used for the communication port was damaged. This sometimes happens among cheap pirated ones. Those don't have surge protections.

That would suck big time. I'll take it to a Lexus dealer and ask them to read the code for me. If they can't then I have a bigger problem.

Make sure nothing it's stuck in the plug, I had a platic tab broken once and it got stock in the female plug witch prevented full contact .

Hi all, problem solved, was a busted wire. I removed the panel the OBD2 connector is fitted to and as soon as it came out I could see the problem.
Popped the connector out and soldered the wire back on, and hey presto we have Link.
The code I wanted to read turned out to be P0420 (Bank 1) so either I need to replace one of the O2 sensors, or else I have other problems like a leaky header-CAT gasket or a crack in the Y pipe..
I've reset it so we will see if it appears again. Hasn't so far on a 20 mile test loop.

Try pushing hard to connect it. You will have to reach behind the socket to support it.
Once I made sure that it was fully connected, all worked as it should. 😁
