Using smart key access without pushing fob buttons
New battery in fob. Smart access button under dash is on. Fob locks and unlocks using buttons but not by gripping handle or pushing black square on handle. Any advice? 06 LS 430
This was the case on my car, when the driver door actuator was broken/non functional at purchase. A closer inspection showed that the driver door wasn't actually locking at all, pass and 2 rears were clicking and locking/unlocking. The salesperson (used car mgr) said no that can't be, I took your car home a few times and locked it at my house LOL
Once the dealer replaced the driver door actuator, handles worked.
(I still laugh because Yelp slammed him saying he was useless, and he was...the service mgr. is the one who fixed everything for free while he never called me back)

Battery is right. When I bought it the master key wasn't working(no battery in it), and the smart key that did work was not a master, and I assumed that was why it didn't work to access without pushing the fob
If you push lock to lock the entire car, then make sure the fob is out of range, are all 4 doors actually locked? Or if your car is set to lock the doors when you drive off, are all 4 doors locked? In my case my driver door was doing nothing, and my symptoms were identical. It made me realize my whole life I assumed that clicking and having the car acknowledge meant all was locked. Never thought twice that if an actuator fails, the car isn't really locked. With the LS I check it every now and again....lock car, make sure fob out of range, pull all 4 handles...
