Ever since I put new tires on the car - about two months ago, my TPMS light/warning has been firing. I can get it to disappear using by pressing the reset button under the steering column, but I cannot seem to get the car into "calibration mode".
According to all the literature, you're supposed to turn the key to "On" and hold the rest button until a calibration message appears on the scree. I've done that many times, holding the button for several minutes and nothing happens.
Has anyone else experienced this?
FWIW: Tires are @38psi all around - just rechecked them again.
Hi all - I've tried everything and I cannot get the TPMS light stay off. I've been through the recalibration process 20 times or more and I cannot get the initialization to begin. As was mentioned before, I checked to see if I was in the "ON" position - I'm not beyond silly mistakes, but I am/was set to "ON". Any way to disable it - or would it take replacing all 4 sensors?
It is possible that someone damaged one of the ABS wheel sensors while changing your tires. However that should not have affected your ability to reinitialize the ABS/TPMS using the button for it and the procedure listed in the manual. It might be worth having codes read to see if the ECM is throwing any errors. Also 38 psi sounds very high to me. I'd reduce cold tire pressure to exact pressure listed on the drivers side sill plate (33 psi?) and then try the reinitialize process again. I am assuming you are running standard size tires and wheels?

You are right. Your TPMS is not getting into calibration mode. You will see the message saying something like the "System is initialized" (do not remember exactly). Did you start the vehicle first, then turned off engine by rotating the key back to first position, then rotated it to ON and pressed reset? If I am not mistaken, this is how I initialized my TPMS recently.
I don't think I performed the exact ignition/off-1st position/ON before I pressed the button. Do you think the my 38psi has anything to do with it too?
Does ABS work (assuming yes)....I actually have not reset mine since putting on the snows since it's very inconvenient, so I am not sure if mine would work (one would think if not working, warning, however)
38 PSI cold would be a bit high, but that should not set the warning off imho....
Only my wife's car displays the PSI, I find this to be a bad thing if one is obsessive, because all 4 tires can be set via a gauge, yet they will vary by +/- 1. And to make matters worse, 1/4 will even drop by 3, then recover, etc. I have seen this happen on a Cadillac rental as well. It's as if it might as well not say anything and let us rely upon a gauge....
I have had my car for almost 5 years now and 3 sets of tires. I have had 2 flat tires and the TPMS did not go off either time. My car is serviced by my local Lexus dealer so I would assume they would reset the TPMS when they rotate the tires after each 5,000 mile service. I would also assume that they would know how to do this. My opinion is the TPMS is practically useless and not to be relied upon. I check my tires at least 1 time a month and adjust the pressure if it is needed. Has anyone had the system warn them that a tire is low? just asking
My TPMS actually worked!
LF tire was a slow leaker that got away from me; warning came on at 23 psi, before I could sense anything was awry.
So sometimes it actually works!
As I understand it, it senses ONLY speed differences among the 4 tires; so initial pressure should have no effect at all on it.
Ditto for swapping sets of tires: if new tires have equal pressure, then TPMS is happy.
Same for rotating tires: reinitialization shouldn't be required.
I think there's another tire size calibration somewhere in the service menu; allows GPS to sync with new tire diameters?
This is a silly question, but I will ask anyway...
There are 3 "Reset" buttons on the LS430, one on the steering wheel, one on the dashboard just below the instrument display, and one hidden under the dashboard about where your right knee would be while seated in the driver seat. This hidden "RESET" button is the one you need to push to initialize the TPMS. Can you confirm that you used the correct "RESET" button?
It worked! Thank you to everyone who keep pasting the instructions in. The piece that I didn't do, that is critical, is the car must running before immediately turning it off then moving the the key to "ON". I was trying to do the initialization from a standstill - without the initial start/stop.
