I purchased a New Smart Key from a Texas Lexus Dealer last week. After I received it I went to an independent lock smith and had the new blank key ground using my original smart key as a model, and it works perfectly in all the keyed locks. ($20)
Yesterday I left the new smart key with my original smart key at my local Lexus dealer to complete the electronic copying/programming process. When I picked up my car, the original smart key and the new smart key, I left the Dealer without trying the key.
When I arrived home I tried the buttons on the smart key FOB and they worked perfectly and even started the car by using the smart key inserted into the ignition switch.
When I tried to access the car with the new key in my pocket it would not unlock any of the doors or allow the starter switch to unlock the steering wheel lock.
Did the dealer forget to program that function? I don't know the process to program smart keys and wonder if the Smart Key Wireless programming is another step in the programing process. As I said the Key FOB button programming works just fine, it's the wireless functions that don't work.
It looks like it might be a three (3) step process? 1) Cut the mechanical key 2) Program the three (3) FOB Buttons 3) Program the wireless function
Yes I will do that, they didn't charge me for the programming ($0) which was nice but the car was there for Timing Belt Service anyway. ($1056)
I just want to be more informed about the process before I called him back.
Perhaps they just forgot that step if it is another step in the process.
Drove over to the Dealer yesterday that programmed the Smart Key last week. Found out that the Smart Key FOB I purchased from Bell Lexus through EBay is a Valet key and will not work as a proximity type key.
The picture Bell Lexus shows on Ebay indicates a three button but I received a two button. The mechanic I spoke with told me I need the Key Fob with three buttons and the third button must show a picture of the car with the trunk open to perform as a proximity smart key after programming.
Bell Lexus would have taken it back but I waited to long to get it programmed, and tested. So now I have a spare key without the proximity function to put away somewhere.

Use Ebay, but ask questions.
Misleading to show a 3-button key picture. What was the description of the key?
that is a usual dealer bait and switch.the key isnt a smart key its a valet key.the key pictured is a smart key.to bad you waited to find that out.
the part number on the bag is called a transmitter key which is what you got.

The picture shows a 3-button key, and the bag for the key shows the correct part # for the 3-button master key. I'd say that Bell Lexus shipped you the wrong key. See https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...-question.html
I'd contact the Seller through eBay, and/or file a claim with eBay. EBay's Money Back Guarantee may apply to this transaction.
Just called Bell Lexus parts department and spoke with Joe who couldn't have been more helpful with the Key FOB problem I had. I bet he apologized 5 times for the part mix up. After a brief discussion Joe said a new one was on the way.

Great news! Now, will your local dealer program it for free as goodwill? The metal slide key on the side of the fob that is already cut for your vehicle could be removed and swapped into the correct fob that Bell Lexus is shipping. Or, Bell Lexus could cut the new key based on your VIN.
