Default 460 engine on the 430?

Hey guys, hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

While talking to a friend today, I was wondering if the 460 engine was ever retro-fitted on a 430?

I would love to have that done, almost +100 horsepower increase.
What do you guys think about it?

I would like to see somebody try the 460 engine. That would be cooler.

If I were rich I would drop an IS-F motor in my LS. That or an LS1.

Funny. I would suggest the other way around.

I'd love to have a 430 engine in a 460. The insane ticking from my 460L is the main reason I went back to a 430.

It would be more cost effective and better performance to install a turbo and an engine management system on the 430 engine. Don't have to mess with the rest of the drive train.

That would be just great.
Hmmm, an LS1, not bad, not bad at all.

But the idea of fitting a 460 engine seems easier and more simple, hence that it is the successor of the 430.

I just seem to love the ticking you're talking about. Some very very clean 430's have the same sound.

But I think a 430 on the huge very heavy 460 will do it more bad than good. It will feel slow as a turtle with no legs.

More cost effective, maybe. But not better on the ling run. The 460 has a very well built engine and IF it has been fitted correctly on the 430, then it will operate as abnormal vehicle.

On the other hand, I hear turbo's have lots of problems and require lots and lots of maintenance.

cute thread, i have to believe with all the technology advances, direct injection and put into a bigger car that the 460 motor is a better performance/efficent motor , the 460 was a car heavier by 400 -600 pounds with better performance, i would take the ticking every day for the benefits of direct injection/port combo that the 460 is
that being said i exhaust all efforts on the board to promote the use of mobil 1 extended performance for the fact of preserving one of the top v-8 motors ever made amazing motor in our 430 the linear torque curve, the ability to rev when needed with power all the way thru the torque range and the bulletproof reliability
true miracle motor safe driving

Depends on the amount of boost and what you are trying to do. It is always smart to go through an engine and prepare it for another 150 HP or so. Turbo's themselves are really not complicated and are widely used. Especially in diesel engines. A good turbo usually last about 80 - 100k miles before you need to rebuild them. You also get more bang for your buck vs a supercharger. Both require a lot of tuning and an engine management system to be used on a Lexus.

The LS460 has only 80 hp more then the 430. Not really that much more. I would want at least 150 - 250 more hp if I was going to go to all that trouble. Also, the 430 transmission and all the drive-line won't fit a 460 engine.

Default Buyer Beware

I am in the ending struggle of doing a motor swap. Make sure you be very careful when considering changing year-make engine configurations. If you don't know what you are doing, or don't know someone who does, then it could become very time consuming and expensive.

Stick with Occam's Razor. Go with the simplest solution.

Good luck.

I found zero benefits from all that engine technology. In 8 months of driving the same route I did in my 430, it got 2 mpg worse fuel economy, was noticeably louder, and didn't feel a lick faster. But that's just me.

Check out the 460 sections when you have time, they are dealing with a lot of serious engine problems, ive officially stopped my pursuit to own a ls460.

One of the most common problems is after an oil change the engine gets incredibly sluggish ,to the point that its a safety issue for the drivers. they think its because the loud valves, which is the loud tapping Bob spoke about, sets off the knock sensor , and messes up the timing, they have no known cure for it.

They also have a valve problem and the top half of the engine needs to be rebuilt in some cases, its a nightmare .

If your looking for power id just turbo the 3uz, I think we have plenty of room under the hood for it.

I was just very curious about it.. maybe not anymore.

*****, wow i have never knew. What you're saying about Japanese engineering doesn't really make sense to me, maybe different engineers than those who have worked on the 430?
