What Olil and Filter do you use?
Its time for my first Oil change...Just wanted to know what brands of Oil and filter everyone is using in their LS430? are you going to Lexus/Toyota, using a 3rd party or doing it on your own?
pls include your year and any findings/problems you have found with a specific brand of oil/filter if any

Bought a case of filters from Sewell at less than $4 each and just now switching to Mobil1 full synthetic 5W-30... going to see how that works for me. I like the OEM filters and the one filter fits 4 of my vehicles... so that makes it easy... I can put synthetic in myself for less than I can pay an oil/lube shop to put Dino oil in... bit more effort on my part, but well worth it.
6 quarts? thought the manual only called for 5.5 with filter change.... did I read that wrong?

In our LS430, have been using Toyota 10W-30 for last 10 years, Have been changing oil & filter at 6 months or 5,000 klm's. Changing lubricants regularly is cheap insurance.

LSCowboy made a great thread about oil filters that can be used on the LS400. I'm going to PM him and see if he can share his thoughts on the LS430.

If you want to extend your time between oil changes, running a great full synthetic oil such as Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra, Mobil 1 Extended, Valvoline SynPower, Castrol Edge Titanium, etc. is not enough, you still have that wimpy little oil filter than doesn't have the capacity to go 12 or 15K miles! - Even if you are very conservative in your oil change frequency and change it every 3000 or 5000, a larger and better made oil filter is always a good thing!
So here is a list of the most premium oil filters that work great on all LS models from 1990-2006 and give you ~60% more volume as well as premium features on the inside of the filter such as a silicon anti-drainback valve and high quality bypass valve of the same PSI setting as the stock Toyota filter.
Oh how I love big oil filters rather than the smaller one that came on our car!
here is the list of the world's most premium oil filters, in oversize, which I can expand if I have missed your favorite brand:
Motorcraft --- FL-400S
WIX XP --- 51516XP
Fram Ultra --- XG3600
K&N --- HP-2009
Mobil 1 --- M1-209
Bosch Premium --- D3422
Purolator PureONE --- PL20195
NAPA Platinum --- PFL 41516
Amsoil --- EAO34
Royal Purple --- 20-400
Toyota (NipponDenso) --- 90915-20004 (made in Japan)
TRD (Toyota Racing Design) --- PTR43-00080 .....Note: this is not an oversize filter
PS - the K&N and Mobil 1 filters are the same filter internally, and with minute differences the Royal Purple and Toyota Racing Design (TRD) are as well, all 4 made on the same assembly line by Fram subsidiary FRAM Filtration (aka Champion)
the Amsoil and NAPA platinum are essentially the same internally as the Wix XP who manufacturers them, although Amsoil is transitioning to Champion (FRAM Filtration) for their manufacturing.

right now the consensus "best oil" according to the oil geek gurus at bobistheoilguy.com is Pennzoil Ultra, but getting hard to find
another one getting crazy great interest is Toyota's own 0W-20 (made by Mobil but to a higher spec than any of their own oils)
to understand why "thin is in" on motor oils these days to those in the know, take yourself on over to Motor Oil University and bone up a bit.
an excerpt from Motor Oil 101: "The greatest confusion is because of the way motor oils are labeled. It is an old system and is confusing to many people. I know the person is confused when they say that a 0W-30 oil is too thin for their engine because the old manual says to use 10W-30. This is wrong."
but there is no logical reason to ever use a 10W-30 over a 5W-30, to understand why, read the definitive primer on motor oil
