I bought a new NAV DVD from Lexus dealer for my 2001 LS430 and with the help of this forum, installed myself. It seemed to install ok, but when I try to register home, the entire screen is greyed out. Same problem when I press Destination - everything is grey!
HELP!

Reason: Greed = greyed
For certain, my 2005 with stock Nav does not have to be stopped, it happily shows my position (updated once per second) on the moving map. If your car must be stationary, something is very wrong.
One possibility for the gray-out is that your DVD cannot be read, thus the map database is not available and you won't have terrain features or POIs.
Another (less likely) possibility is that you don't have a GPS fix. This would be the case if you are in your garage or other obscured position. The GPS antenna must have a clear line-of-sight view to at least 4 satellites for a 3-D fix. To check on this, use the built-in service menu to check the GPS status. If you need instructions to access the service menu, just respond, and I will post them.
The only thing that seems to work is the map itself, which displays just fine. The street I live on now displays, but did not with the original DVD. The zoom in/out feature works ok, but all menu items are grey.
Since I bought at Lexus, I may just bring it back to them. Just because I installed it shouldn't matter, since the installation was "successful".
Have you selected an initial zone/region where it highlights the part of the US you will be searching? If not perhaps it's confused.
Otherwise the only thing I can think of is the speedo sensor that tells it that the car is in motion is messed up and is constantly signaling that the car is moving which disables certain entry. Unlikely though.
