nav reset?
everytime i put my car on a 2002 sc430 i keep getting on my nav screen , error insert proper disc and a bunch of chinese writing. anyway to reset the nav ? please any info would be great thanx
Czerk... Did this just happen or is this a new purchase? Reason I asked is you may want to check to see if the disk is a reproduction (copy) and your DVD doesn't like it. What Version are you using and is it for your generation?
If all of the above is correct and you have just came across this problem, I think I would eject the disk once more, turn off car and wait a few minutes and then install the disk once more. If that dosn't work I'm not sure what the next step would be. Someone else may want to chime in with the next step. Hopefully it's not the Nav player.
Good luck,

just bought/picked up the car on friday, its a 2002. the disc is original, at first i was having problems with the touch screen not working. now this crazy half english half japanese mesage is on my screen. when i get home today i'm going to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and hope for the best. but anymore info would be great. i've searched the forums and a few people have had this happen but no one posts a fix, and that scares the crap out of me. don't want to go to the dealership and spend thousands

Both of your symptoms sound like a disc issue. When you touch the screen, the nav attempts to seek data on the disc. When you start the car, the nav attempts to seek data on the disc.
Surely you have examined the disc for scratches, proper installation (correct side up) and cleaned it?
If you are lucky its just the disc. If you are not lucky, it is the optical which seeks the data on the disc. Finding someone with a good disc, like stw suggested, would answer that question.

the previous owner may have bought an updated disc and installed it. then swapped out the original disc when he sold it. if that's the case, you'll need the latest disc. once you update the system, older discs will no longer work.
