Its a security device - allows the owner to check and see if the engine is still there after getting coffee at the quick-stop in the hood.

Or a handy way to see if your toasted ham and cheese sandwich is done when doing some engine bay haute cuisine.

It is a nice way to display that mighty fine genuine Lexus brand plastic cover on the LS engine.

 

+1 on the security bit. This was part of the VIP superlux pack. Very rare. I never feel the engine at startup so this is a convenient feature to have to make sure no one nicked your engine.

yeah, but i feel the same way about that car as i do about people lowering their LS and putting big rims on it.

that's to let the planes that fly by know that you drive a Lexus. You don't just want the people in front and back of you know. I think this car also has big "L" on the door panels etched.
