Can't Read Code
Hello I am from Argentina and i have A 1993 Lexus LS 400, with 89 000 miles, the problem is that the Check Engine Light comes on but without any code. The Engine starts but at 2000 RPM it begins to fail. The Engine stutters and the check Engine Light goes off and on as the Engine stutters. I dont know the Word in English but the Engine runs (atrasado) (Behind) sorry I dont know the Word in English, may be someone Could help me. The double muffler also heats up and turn red. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Dont think 1st gen LS400s are OBD2, maybe o2 sensor went bad, sparks/wires could be bad, IAC valve could be dirty, maybe not enough air going into chamber. Put a paper clip on the diagnostic plug and count the blinking lights on the dash and determine the problem like so... Goodluck!!!

Dont think 1st gen LS400s are OBD2, maybe o2 sensor went bad, sparks/wires could be bad, IAC valve could be dirty, maybe not enough air going into chamber. Put a paper clip on the diagnostic plug and count the blinking lights on the dash and determine the problem like so... Goodluck!!!
no blinking thats the problem I already tried that.
If it's not blinking then either you're pinning the wrong harness/pins or the ECU is dead. (Though usually when that happens the CEL doesn't come on at all).

Judging from these symptoms "check engine light goes off and on", "no code", "begins to fail at 2000rpm", "heating up 2 mufflers"all together means that the ECU is failed into the safe mode to me. Key devices inside must be failed. Confirming some more, I think I can give you some more advise. When did you start to have those problem? just lately? It must be the warmest season there in your location.

Gracias por su interés y ayuda, el auto arranca y a las 2000 vueltas comienza los fallos, funciona como si estuviera atrasado, y el escape múltiple comienza a calentarse. Al tratar de hacer puente para ver la falla con la luz del Check, este no hace absolutamente nada, no marca. Al encender el auto el check no enciende al pasar unos segundos ya cuando el auto está en funcionamiento si prende el Check y queda prendido. Cuando el motor empieza a fallar el motor el check se prende y apaga sincronizado con el motor. El motor falla el check se apaga, y se prende en seguida cuando el motor continua funcionando. El motor funciona como si tuviera alguna bujía en corto. Esto comenzó hace algunos meses y nadie acá en Argentina me lo pudo solucionar, lo llevé a un Toyota oficial y me lo devolvieron porque no sabían que hacer. Ahora si es la época de más calor por acá. Yo estoy pensando en que debe haber algún problema con el ECU, que significa que esté funcionando como dice usted en safe mode? De nuevo muchísimas gracias.

A juzgar por su situación, creo que el problema es causado por las fugas de los condensadores como está escrito precisamente por LScowboyLS aquí. Leer el hilo y reemplazar los condensadores y sus problemas será todo arreglado.

Le agradezco infinitamente su ayuda ya que finalmente luego de mucho tiempo y habiendo cambiado los condensadores, este volvió a funcionar.
Viviendo en Argentina todo se complica teniendo un auto que ningún mecánico de acá conoce, así que su ayuda para mi es invalorable.
Si alguna vez tiene la oprtunidad de venir a Argentina me gustaría conocerlo y quedo a su disposición para lo que necesite.

He estado preocupando acerca de sus situaciones, pero me siento feliz de saber el resultado.
Será mejor que dar las gracias más a LScowboyLS ya que él es el tipo que ha comenzado a trineo, "All my crazy Lexus issues SOLVED!! (ECU-leaking capacitor)".
Leyendo sus escritos, en la actualidad hay muchas personas en todo el mundo que están felices de tener éxito para fijar su LS400. Acabo sólo he ayudado a algunos.

También estoy muy contento de que los condensadores han resuelto sus problemas en su LS400 - Yamae y yo trabajé en la solución a este mediante la determinación de los condensadores mejor posible y descubierto por qué los condensadores fallaban antes de tiempo, por lo que tenemos muy buen fleeling cuando alguien tiene éxito con nuestra investigación se cumplió y el trabajo en la solución de este problema.
