Hello, does anyone know of a vendor who sells the leather for shift ***** where you can sew it on yourself? I know Leatherseats.com has leather for the steering wheel but didn't see for shift *****.Thanks:
That looks nice, my shifter is to far gone to paint I need it redone.
Mine was very worn on the top, there was no coating left.
I just gave it a good clean, left it to dry out and used kitchen towel to dab the paint on,gave it 4 coats to achieve the result in the picture.
It's been done around 12 months now and still looks good.
Worth a try for around $5.00
You could remove the shift **** and carefully cut the stitching with razor blade or exacto knife. Then remove the old leather. Go to a local auto reupholstery shop and get a piece of leather that closely matches yours. You won't need much and you can probably use what is left over from previous jobs. They should sell it to you cheap or even give it to you. Place the old leather on top of the new piece and use a ball point pen to trace the correct size. Use a sharp object like an ice pick to make the holes from the original piece transfer onto your new piece of leather. Then, cut the new piece out. Place the leather on the shift **** and sew it back on using waxed thread or nylon thread. I would start on both sides and sew towards the middle. When you have sewn up on both sides some you might want to dab a small amount of silicone between the leather and the **** for adhesion. It is really much easier than it sounds. I have done this with several shift ***** and it comes out great. You also feel pretty good about yourself afterwards.
Alternatively, you could scour the salvage yards in the hopes of finding a decent replacement ****.........
Good luck. Let me know if you have questions.
I have been looking at this myself and am having a have time getting my interior apart, how does one get the O/D button out of the shifter without destroying it.
if I can get mine apart I am capable of making new covers and would be willing to make extras in different colors and fibers if interested I am looking at a dark blue suede for a more comfortable grip.
^^^ yes i noticed that too....and then i looked at the member's location and it says Florida...this car suppose to be right hand drive???
Very true and well spotted I am from the UK and for some reason when I tried to join I couldn't enter UK details so having spent many weeks in Ft. Lauderdale when cruising to the Caribbean it was as near as I could get.
I hope you guys don't mind I've got used to using hood/trunk/fender instead of bonnet/boot/wing!!
