Its not as bad as I thought. But not easy either. Had to get a new ECM and keys.

Total install is going to be about 425 bucks. That is at the dealership. Also found a few sites where they now have the systems to reflash the ECM on Lexus's and Toyota's. Cost around 200 bucks or so and you send your ECM in along with a door lock. So you have to do a little work.

Was looking in the archive and saw some people paying like 2000 to 3000 to get a new ECM and keys. Not sure what is going on there.

Oh well there is my two cents worth.

You want to her something brutal? My Lexus dealer told me that if I lost my keys they would charge me $2200 to rekey the entire car.

Question keys

Does anyone know if you can get an extra plain key (no remote lock/unlock capability). Dealer said it would be about $230 for an extra key for my 91 ls 400 (with the remote).

Thanks,

Rich

I bought a plain key cut by the dealer several years ago for ~$12. Some dealers have key machines, while others send it out to a local locksmith. I also bought a valet key from the dealer that was based on the VIN # for ~$35.

There are several guys selling Lexus key blanks on Ebay. You may have to do some calling to find a locksmith who can cut them.

You might also try calling other dealers as prices seem to vary. I was quoted $309 + $65 programming charge for a Master key and a Valet key for an LS430. Another dealer sold me both for $210, and no charge for programming.

Thanks for the tips, jstjohnz and dadcat1. Looks like it is time to call all the local Lexus dealers and find out who is willing to do some business at a fair price (or get the blanks on Ebay and call some locksmiths)
