Default 99 LS needs supplys Oem if Possible

Hi Everyone Thanks again for all quick reply's This Forum is without a doubt a Haven for all Lexus Owners !

My Car needs a New Battery , Oil , Coolant , Power Steering fluid and Brake fluid .
When replacing or fixing it I tend to pull to the Oem stuff but your Knowledge in favor of one or the other is appreciated .

Another slightly more obscure question we have is , What goes in the trunk in the space cut into the spare tire trim area ?
We have a Jack and the other thingy but there are still two spaces empty ?
Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Use an Interstate battery, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 motor oil, Toyota Long Life coolant, Mobil 1 synthetic automatic transmission fluid for the power steering fluid, and any old DOT 4 brake fluid. I like ATE Super Blue brake fluid but would use Prestone synthetic brake fluid in a pinch.

You need to be more specific about the trunk question. There's a jack, jack handle, tray that goes over the tire, and the hand-tightened sprocket with the bolt on the end securing the spare to the vehicle.

If you look at the spare tire as a clock face at 6 o'clock there is a square cut out that looks like a Warning Triangle or something like that goes in there ?.

I live in Southern California if that should change my coolant and oil Answer .
Thanks

Okay,
then in California your specs are:
1) Peak antifreeze coolant
2) Accel 30w non-detergent oil
3) Fram oil filter
4) Exide battery
5) Supertech brake fluid
6) Prestone power steering fluid

Thought those were spec'd for the F50?

Was my question dumb ? I am starting to feel not only was it dumb but also stupid , ignorant and well not well thought out ?
I will refrain from such questions and stick to the obscure , Like . " What goes in the trunk in the space cut into the spare tire trim area ?
We have a Jack and the other thingy but there are still two spaces empty ? "
Is that more like it ?

No, your questions are definitely valid. This forum is for everyone with honest questions. Some will recommend you search for certain commonly asked questions. The ones you have asked are rare enough that I doubt you would get that reply.

Thermactor made very good recommendations and followed with a "joke" post about your being from California. I followed with a "joke" post towards him about his daily beater Ferrari F50...

Joking can be taken the wrong way but these two examples are fairly benign.

only 3 battery makers johnson control, east penn, and exide. fram filters are garbage, use wix filters they are sold at napa auto,u can use any dot 3 brake fluid, the higher the number the higher the boiling point, just dont use dot 5,dot 5.1 is ok. i am going to stay away from recommending oil as i will get blasted if i dont tell u what others think is correct, i will tell u this much, castrol makes a very good oil as does valvoline.

Watch out for using the higher boiling point brake fluids as they should be changed every 6-8 months. You won't make any use of the higher boiling point anyways unless your cars sees ALOT of track time or long desert runs. Whatever OEM spec is best if you don't plan on changing your brake fluid that often.
Everything else seems pretty straight forward.

my choice:
1) Toyota Super Long Life (or Long Life) Coolant
2) Mobil1 5w-30 OR German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 (or RP)
3) Bosch/Toyota/Mobil oil filter
4) Optima sealed red top Battery (or costco battery)
5) ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid
6) Mobil1 or Royal Purple dexron III spec transmission fluid (for power steering)

don't use "power steering" fluid for the power steering, it is a bit too thin, use dexron III spec transmission fluid.

Hi,

Those empty spaces in the trunk are wheel blocks (triangular) so you can chock the wheels when jacking up the car.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again .
Pure Drifter mentioned the " optima " Battery. I was wondering about fitment etc ? is it a straight swap using the Oem mounting hardware or will I require some help to get it in there .
My mechanic says he doesn't rate those batts too well but I have seen them in a lot of high end applications , and Pure drifter knows his stuff too . My mechanic is also oem obsessed I mentioned aftermarket rims and 18s and he nearly passed out ( The car is perfect like Lexus made it and the Rims are built to work with the AS so I was forbidden , LoL , to change them ).

I want to fill up the thing in the spare wheel with all the right fluids so my wife will think the car runs better ( she had me replace the missing tools in the Tool box too ) Wheel Chocks ? I will empty the trunk and have a good look .I have just replaced nearly all the interior bulbs with white Leds including a very bright one in the truck I will go on a chock hunt now.your help has been appreciated Thanks All

johnson control makes kirkland batteries, they also make interstate and napa legend batteries as well...a battery is only as good as its warranty...the thing about optima batteries is this, u can always bring them back to life by putting a 2 amp charge on them for 2 days.
