Default Buying a 1990 LS400

I'm planning on buying a used LS400 for my dad. I don't want to spend more than $4,000. I found a 1990 LS400 with 122k miles on it. The car is in nice shape, considering it is 20 years old. The seller had the timing belt replaced at 119k miles. The steering rack etc has also been changes. The A/C and heat work as does everything else. It dosen't have a CD changer and the display for A/C Heat temp dosen't work.

The question is, the seller is asking $4,795 for the car. This is higher than KBB. However, it seems that most of the used LS400s in California are either 200k miles and above or they have been driven into the ground.

Does this sound like a reasonable price?

Thansk.

If that's your budget, then dont rush into the purchase. There are newer LS' for that amount, even LESS. If you want the 1st Gen LS, then stick to the 93-94 years, due to the improvements that were made. Don't overspend, because you will need the money along the way, for the little things that might need replacement/repair due to the car's 15-20 year age.

You did not mention whether it has air suspension or not, but if not, then at lest a couple of the major things seem to have been taken care of. Was the power steering pump also changed?

However, the price is pretty ridiculous! Around here you can get a 95-96 for that price. If you are happy with the price, then go for it. Otherwise I'd hold off for a little bit.

I don't know where you've looked, but here are a few links to some prospective cars to look in CA, if you're looking to drive around. These are below your budget as you can see.

Make sure to inspect every car though.

offer way less most people with these old cars expect low ***** so they inflate the price so if u do low ball they get to where they wanted anyway. Cash talks if u like it when you check it out have the money that your willing to spend with you. IF he take it great if not there are tons of these out.

I offered $3,800 (KBB) and he said no. He wants $4,100. I said I would pass and keep looking. I just need to be patient as everyone mentioned.

Thanks for the advice.
