Default caps and temperature rating

I am going to replace the 3 caps in my cluster and would like to know how you feel about the higher temp caps. Are they necessary. They are cheap but i can't find them yet. 85's only. And has anybody found a cheap place for the LCD screens? thanks Jeff

even with the new caps, sometimes the needle still dies but bounces back up like 10minutes later. the lcd screen is almost the same price everywhere since its a known problem in the LS's.

The problem with the needles was also a problem that i had but i found a guy over here in Hampshire that fixed mine but he kept the fix secret from me, but the repair is first class, i know thats no help to you as he is 3,000 miles from your location, i hope you find someone more LOCAL to you, best regards. Gary.

How much did he charge? I will have the caps done but not the needles i suspect which i hope will clean up the other and much larger problems like lazy fuel needle and no dash lights upon cold start. The needles tips are gone. I appreciate the reply friend.

C142 (big Board) was 4.7 UF, 25V (fix lazy fuel gauge)
C147 (Also on the big board) was 10 UF, 50V (fix lazy fuel gauge)
C212 (Small Board) 10 UF, 16 V (fix cold temp lighting issues)

These are easy to fix yourself if you know how to solder. The hardest part of the process is getting the stupid cluster out the dash. You'll see just what I mean when you try to disconnect the wire harness connectors.

As for any "unlit" portion of your needles, finding some conductive paint and repainting the black portions of the backs of the needles should fix the issue. I'll be experimenting with this myself this week.

Good luck.

Just for confirmation, conductive paint will fix unlit/partially lit needles. I fixed my fuel gauge needle this weekend and finally have fully lit needles!

Someone recommended window defrost repair kits. I used that material to paint the sides and bottoms of a needle and it is working like new again. I got it at Pepboys or Autozone I forgot it was $12.95.

I removed the black film from the middle of the needle. It remained on the tip and base of the needle. I just painted the defrost material and made sure there was a connection to both remaining ends with the film. I then scraped a clean straight exposed line on the front of the needle with a double edged razor blade.

Good Luck.
