Your dealer can re-program your car to exactly do just that. I've had it done my previous LS, my current GS, and dont it at home with my newer LS.
Yeah...my car was bought private party and the closest dealer is about an hour and a half away

For 2.5LS: Did anyone know about the first aid kit underneath the driver's seat? I had completely overlooked that until I had decided to do an indepth interior cleaning.

Can't set the cruise at speed while in 3rd.....

Very nice IMHO...

Radio antenna adjusts height for optimum reception.

Can you please elaborate? I'm almost positive I've had Cruise enabled while in 3rd (O/D off). (1st gen LS)

Not sure about the early ones, but I was going about 45-50 the other day and couldn't get the cruise to engage. As soon as I shifted into drive, it engaged immediately.

I think it is speed dependent, because I used the cruise the next day in 3rd, but at a lower speed. Next time I drive it, I'll test it out for sure.

thats not a gearing issue, the cruise control is factory disabled on most cars to not come on under a certain speed (i think ~40mph on the LS)

I tried it on the way to the track today. I was ~40mph when I engaged Cruise in 3rd gear (O/D off). I then accelerated via Cruise to 50mph.

Most cars won't let you engage Cruise under 35mph-40mph as PureDrifter suggested.

It is around 25 on most Toyotas. I'll go have a look see.

OK,

I just took a little drive, but this time the Cruise would not come on at any speed while in 3rd.(I must be going crazy) Anyhow, the cruise speed cutoff is indeed 25 mph, and the cruise only works with the car in "D"

You guys have the little button for OD right? It may be that the cars requiring shifter movement for OD/off also cut off the cruise. I like it because the darn thing is so smooth that somebody could run it a LONG time at high speed, and never notice that the OD is off. The 95-97 has no annoying OD/off light to tell you, just a green "3" right next to the green "D"

On 1995-1997 models, cruise control will auto-cancel if the gear selector is moved to any position other than "D." On earlier models, it will auto-cancel if the gear selector is moved to the "N" position. This is all according to the factory repair manual. 1990-1992 models have an "OD off" button on the back of the shifter, and 1993-1994 models have it relocated to the driver's side of the shifter.

While we're on the idea of the Cruise Control, please also note that the ETC function does not do anything while engaged in Cruise Control.
