Not really hidden since most of these are in your owner's manual

1996 Toyota Celsior. Is it still possible to reprogram these cars at a Lexus dealer? I just called two dealers and asked about the old TSIB CBES programmable cards using the diagnostic tool and they both said that they can't do it anymore. I'm looking at the list of available options and it feels like the previous owner was a psychopath with the options they had programmed into this car.

I vaguely remember seeing a TSIB (?) addressing discontinuation of support for the Vertronic hand-held scan tool and the final version of the program card (14.1a). Perhaps the dealerships got rid of the old hardware/software?

@paulo57509 I tried checking Ebay for the scan tools... because honestly it would be a shame for these tools to end up in landfills or someones shed and I wasn't even sure what I would be looking for, I felt like I found a couple that are probably right, but I think it would take an old Lexus tech to really tell me if it's what I need.

It's a shame when the scan tool gets separated from the accessories/components that came in the complete toolset. Other than cables, I've found it a crap shoot trying to find the missing components.

I picked up a Toyota-branded (Mastertech 3100) from ebay last month. It's a pretty basic tool that's missing about 80% of the stuff that came with it in the toolset. However, it does everything I need it to (so far), basic scan tool stuff, customization and Toyota-specific codes.
  • Scan tool
  • Can Interface Module (not really needed for an 1998 model)
  • Tool-to-CAN interface cable
  • CAN interface-to-DLC3 cable
  • Diagnostic Toolset Program Card, Version, 14.1a.
  • AC Adapter
  • Toyota manual
TBH, other than the ability to customize, from a cost/benefit perspective, you'd be better off with just a generic scan tool.

Attached is part of the manual that describes the tool features. Hopefully this will be of some help.
